Yes, absolutely. It's one of my main fandoms and fan-loves and the flaws are what make it so fascinating and one of the reasons I think the fandom keeps moving so strongly. There's just so much to speculate about and try to make sense of.

There's a lot of better books/shows/movies that have stronger plots but for me, personally, my most enduring fandoms are always the ones where there's plot holes/issues for days but are still engaging. (Naruto is another example of this.)

I don't support JKR but I do still read and write fanfic and participate in fannish spaces. There's plenty to be done in the fandom, and to love, without giving her any money.

100% the same for me, too. I'm not interested in fandoms where I feel like the canon itself wrapped everything up with a nice neat bow. For me, fandom is all about what canon DIDN'T give us, so like you, my lasting fandoms are the one where the canon itself had some plot holes/unfinished character arcs/etc. but was still enjoyable.

AYRT. Yes! The canons I love the most, that I consider flawless, I am NEVER in fandom for. I don't read fic. I don't write it. It's perfect as-is and I will just re-read/watch canon whenever I want that perfection.

But for fandom, I want messy canons. I want nonsense. I want confused world building that doesn't actually make sense because it's fun to peel back the layers and see if there IS sense at the bottom of it. I want a cast of characters that are flawed and yet ignored. I want underdeveloped concepts. I want an Engaging Hot Mess of a story that I can spend ages thinking about how it could be so much better. I want to be able to see the potential in a messy canon. That's what draws me to create and participate in fandom. That potential.

ayrt and exactly! This was me with Fullmetal Alchemist and Nirvana in Fire. I love them. I think they were amazing. I also think they ended exactly the way I wanted them to end and wrapped up the overall plot as well as the individual character arcs perfectly, so I haven't touched fandom for either of those two things at all despite how much I love the canons themselves. I have zero interest in reading fic for either of those two things.

But there are plenty of other canons that made me go "this was great, but Bob's character arc really felt rushed" or "hey why did they introduce this concept and then never do anything with it?" Those are the canons I want fic for, because I want explanations or elaborations for the things that canon just sort of glossed over.

Yeah, having some gaps to fill in/things to fix really kind of gives the fandom a lot of avenues to explore, things to debate, different stuff to consider, and makes things interesting.

Same, I think she's a horrible person and I will never ever understand why this is the hill she wants to die on, but I still love the books and the fandom, for better or for worse.
