I don't want to sound mean/defeatist, but I just feel like this is dead on arrival in the vein of Jordan Peele rebooting The Twilight Zone. The classic of both shows are still beloved today and have huge fandoms, so trying to reboot it without any of the original creators, actors, etc make the core fans less likely to want to watch it and despite how good it may be, it'll be compared to the classic. I hope they find success, but I won't be surprised to hear this is cancelled after 2 seasons.

(Trivial aside: funny that you corrected in the transcript the typo in the secret, though there's a potential for wordplay with the term "in vain").

Reboots are always tricky. Jordan Peele's TZ was in fact the THIRD reboot, and while I thought the 1985 one had some good episodes, it only made it to three seasons. Never have seen the 2002 one, which only got one season...

Anyway. I did like Twilight Zone reboot lol

the 80's Twilight Zone was very underrated (some eps are on youtube) but don't bother with the 00's one

I loved The X-Files, so I'll certainly give this a chance.

That MSR pairing was lightning in a bottle though. The stories were good on the original show, but ngl, I was also watching it for the ship.

TBH, I didn't really enjoy the additional seasons with the original cast as much as I hoped I would, and I was super excited about them because I've been a fan of the show from the day it aired. It's just really hard to recapture the magic.

With the Ryan Coogler reboot, I'll watch it but I'll try to lower my expectations and consider it a whole different thing than X-Files. But I would be surprised if it was a success. Pleasantly! But still surprised.

They’re not making this for you. They’re making it for younger generations who think the original looks like total shit and therefore didn’t watch the more recent continuation. They don’t care about the fans they already have, they care about getting new ones. That’s true of almost every reboot and remake even when TPTB claim otherwise.

Sad but true. The goal of most companies is to get MORE consumers. Keeping the old ones is nice too, but they want additional younger consumers more than they want to keep the old ones.

And cue the usual suspects (not necessarily here) whining about "DEI wokeness" in 3... 2....

Yeah, I've never been interested in a reboot (and didn't like the post series movies or new seasons either) but Ryan Coogler doing it is absolutely worth a look.

My whole family watched that show and my mother used to say that the characters would be absolute bores and the story often unwatchable, except Duchovny and Anderson were just so damn good they elevated everything.

Replicate Mulder and Scully and you may have something. But good luck with that - they aren't The Mothership for nothing.
