I really don't see this, tbh. Like they had basically zero parallel goals, even after Zuko joined the Gaang, and the flashback only has weight if they had any sort of relationship before Zuko was tasked to capture him. The dragons, I'll give you, but even then that was more about Zuko relearning how to bend in a way that wasn't evil/whatever, than it was anything to do with them or their relationship.

I don’t ship it, but you might want to rewatch with your storytelling 101 goggles on. The parallel character narratives aren’t subtle.
