(Anonymous) 2026-03-29 08:36 am (UTC)(link)For the most part, I agree with the advice, but I also agree with OP that it doesn't start nor end with taking note of how someone treats service staff.
My parents are relentlessly nice and courteous to strangers, their coworkers and bosses, service workers, and their extended family, but they were extremely mean and dismissive with their own kids.
Similarly, I've seen advice on taking note how a person treats kids and/or animals. Much like the advice on service workers, I can agree that yes, if someone is not kind to kids or animals, they likely aren't a nice person overall. But at the same time, I've had plenty of people in my life who are very kind and loving towards kids/animals (especially the types who like animals more than humans) who are colossal assholes to humans at large.
