Favourite boardgame?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-02 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm planning a family game night tonight, and I would love to hear what everyones favourite board/card/anything game they love to play!

We don't play a lot of board games anymore but Catan is still a tried and true classic for us. Other than that, I really like Wingspan because I love birds. You can also buy additional sets for birds from other world regions. And there's also a dragon version!

Wingspan seems like a really cool game, I've never heard of it before! My mom especially loves birds, and the premise is so cute. I'll definitely look for it on sale! Thank you!

I really miss playing Scrabble with my friends. We've all drifted apart and there's no one in my life who would be interested in playing it with me.

We’re partial to Clue, Uno, Rumikub, Gwent (we bought the cards that are copies of the ones in Witcher 3), and Battleship. Clue is the best game if you really want to use a board, Uno is the best game overall (according to my family).

Clue is a big favourite of ours! I remember owning a game of Rumikub, I'd actually forgotten about it. I'll do a check to see if we still have it, that'd be fun to bring out after all these years! I'll check my set of Uno as well. I have like five decks but they've been scattered about a dozen times each, lol.
Love Gwent as well! I don't have a deck, but I should definitely look into getting one too!

Party Games: Codenames, Exploding Kittens, and Double Feature.

Longer games: Betrayal at House on the Hill, Horrified, and any of those "solve the crime" one use games.

Codenames is a great one! I've never actually played Exploding Kittens before, it's one of those game that I always mean to try, but forget about before I get chance to. I haven't heard of Double Feature, but it looks really fun too!

The Betrayal at House on the Hill seems extremely fun!

(Anonymous) 2026-04-02 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Betrayal at the House on the Hill. I don't have anyone to play it with anymore since everyone moved away, unfortunately. That's the game I miss the most that I used to play with that friend group.

Codenames and Betrayal are two of my favorites!

You might like Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, too.

Coup: it's a card game about bluffing. It can be played quick or slow, but I prefer quick. You have two of half a dozen face-cards representing operatives with specific powers. You keep the cards face down and take actions based on the operatives you have (or claim to have) or general actions. You try to build up enough coins to assasinate or coup the others players operatives but they can call your bluff at any time. If you were lying you lose the card, if you weren't *they* lose a card. Last player with a card left wins.

Also I really enjoyed the DnD board game. We kept at it for months.

I've played Root once, and it's SUPER complicated and took quite a while to get comfortable, but I want to play again SO BAD <3

Coup sounds really fun, a bit like Liar's Dice if I remember the rules right. I like the sound of it for sure.

DnD has always been something I've wanted to get into. Especially when I was younger, I loved RPG's and played with such a full understanding of my player character. I've become more of a completionist over the years but I would love to get back into that character driven aspect. It was always so much fun.

Root looks fun too! A couple members of my family have both the attention span and patience of a toddler, so I'll have to save this one for me and my sister, but I love the look of this!

Settlers of Catan is fun. Root, Mysterium, and all the versions of Duel are also fun.

I also really like nerdy versions of classic games. I have all the Monopoly versions, several Trivial Pursuits, Star Wars Battleship, and Star Wars Life.

Scrabble and Clue are always loved classics.

If card games count, my top two are Cards Against Humanity and Apples to Apples.

Ohh~! Mysterium sounds super cool! Root too, the board is just so pretty! Duel as well, reminded me of Duel Monsters as well. I might still have a deck of Pokemon that's still playable, but just barely, lol.

Oddly enough we don't have Scrabble. We have a game called Option instead, it has triangle shaped pieces, with two letters on each, one light and one dark, and you get bonus points making words with all one colour or the other, and even more if you can switch a letter on the board to make a new word.

Apples to Apples is also a good one, we have it somewhere, but I'll need to dig it out.

I loved Pandemic until the real world got involved.

Other than that my favourite is probably Mysterium. A mix of Dixit and Clue - what's not to love?

Mysterium is great.

Oof, I loved playing Pandemic online, but yeah, after COVID- err, it wasn't that much fun anymore.

Mysterium looks like a lot of fun, so I'll definitely check out Dixit too! I already love Clue, and even though my aunt sold the original version of the game and we only own the new anti-Mrs. White version, it's still a big favourite of ours!

Scrabble, any trivia game, Cards Against Humanity IF your family doesn't mind shock humor

Oooo, how did I forget Cards Against Humanity. I guess I wasn't counting card games in my mind. I love that as well as the game it is based on, Apples to Apples.

Oh man, we do have some Trivial Pursuit games, but they're back from the 80's? 70's? Most of the games we own are things my mom had growing up, which makes for a bunch of fun, but me and my sister are going to be smoked if we add that in. Honestly, I think I might, it'll give me a chance to add a more technical game to make up for it, lol.

I love boardgame family nights

(Anonymous) 2026-04-02 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Carcassonne, Dixit, Can't Stop, Scattegories, and Catch Phrase are the ones that make the rounds at almost every family gathering for us. We also like Triominoes, Pictionary, and Scrabble.

Scattegories is so much fun! Me and my sister have started making up our own categories to play. Last time we lost power, me and her just put a flashlight hooked uptop the table and played that until bed.

I'll have to look for Can't Stop though, I've picked up a few games via garage sales the last couple of summers and that just has a look that I just love!

lol, Pictionary is generally banned in our house though. Last time we played it, my mom got so excited that she broke the overhead lamp on getting a single answer right.

I like Fluxx but you have to have people who understand that the rules will change in-game and can roll with that.

The Game of Life (earlier versions), Upwords, Sequence, Catchphrase, Scrabble, Yatzhee, Dabble

Scrabble, as long as everyone can be relaxed about it. I've got one that's against the rules except when I do it relative, so we play something different when they're around :)
