My dad has something like that, but never has half his nail fallen off, so I'm not sure his solution will work for you. But he uses a nail-repair polish, buffs them and reapplies every week after using a strong remover. (it doesn't actually get rid of the problem but his nails have been in a lot better shape since he started doing that) Have you tried the fungal kits/remedies they offer? Trying to look for the nail repair/strengthening serum he uses, I ended up coming across a bunch of those instead. So they might be worth a try?
His always gets worse between seasons, so hopefully yours evens out some in the coming months.

I think your best bet is to go into a pharmacy and ask. My dad has had his for years because he's stubborn like that, so I don't believe it'll get better on its own. I don't think a regular pharmacy charges if you ask for the pharmacist and tell them your problem, but you might want to look it up to be sure.
