IMO most if not all have probably been a little of both to varying degrees.

Some shit you just hate beyond words. And sometimes the hate is ridiculous. And while I tend lean more toward "if you hate it that much, just move on to something else," I have been guilty of dumping on something because of how terrible I found it. These days I'm more aware of where I am, and careful not to yuck others' yum just because I have an opinion.

When you see someone hating on something, of course you'll have the urge to defend it. I think that's only natural, especially if it's something you enjoy.

I will say there is a difference between hating on something and criticizing something (though some do both). Criticism is fine if you don't take too far.
