This doesn’t surprise me even a little.

I will say that the app didn’t really work right. It would have me change things out all the time but not make them permanent and not actually change anything except add one more thing. Combined with the excessive notifications, it had a very bad effect on me. I was really struggling and instead of making me feel like I was accomplishing the small tasks, it made me feel like I wasn’t doing enough. I deleted and went back to writing things down daily and it was like a huge weight was lifted.

There's a type of modern consumer who's entitled to a ridiculous degree, and thinks that every product, app, piece of entertainment, etc needs to be perfectly tailored to them. If anything about it doesn't match up to their particular tastes, then they throw a fit. And yeah, they'll turn just about any space into a toxic nightmare.

It's...irritating.

I feel like this sums up a lot of problems with feedback online. And, well, offline too for that matter. People expect their exact preferences and desires to be catered to, and if they aren't, then they think it's a problem that should be fixed/changed.

I've been giving the app a go for the last two months and tbh while I do have some quibbles with it, overall it's cute and fun.

Of course, cute and fun things always seem to get the most vicious fandoms, so it doesn't surprise me to hear about this.

Man, I'm glad I don't hang out at Reddit much, haha. I love my little birb. I joined Finch after losing a close online friend last year, and it was one of the things that helped me through that time. It's such a nice little place to go to and find little ways to feel better about things when I need it, help me try to find motivation to do things on rough days. Too bad some people have to ruin everything.

I LOVED Finch. I had my birb for like two years till I deleted my (not saved to the cloud) birb and lost everything so I lost any interest in getting back to the app. But the Discord was INSUFFERABLE, too.

And when my bird liked things I didn't and vice versa, I was like, "Well, my kid would probably have different likes and dislikes than me, so... fair enough to my little virtual pet."

I think what I miss about 2010s fandom the most is 8tracks. While I barely listened to fanmixes, I loved curating my own (with moderate success because of niche fandoms but it was still fun).

Sure, you can create playlists on Spotify but there are a LOT of songs that aren't actually on Spotify (as I just had to learn while trying to recreate some of my old playlists in a fit of nostalgia) and it's just not the same.

You could also use YouTube Music, it's still not quite like 8tracks but at least you can add any song as long as it can be found on YouTube (even if it's in an AMV or an unofficial upload or live recording or whatever). And if the song you're looking for is not on YouTube at all it's easy enough to upload it.

Oh, man, 8tracks. I used it mostly for non-fandom mixes but I remember when my Welcome To Night Vale playlist was declared a certified gem. I felt so proud of myself and my selecting abilities. I wish I'd kept that tracklist; I want to return to my younger self's mindset and see how much still works.

The Ed, Edd and Eddy movie did my heart good, and I'd love to see a continuation of the show with them as friends with the neighborhood kids. I miss that show. (Edd was my favorite).

These two shows are very similar in type: smutty genre fiction (that's either going to work for you or not).

But it has not escaped my notice that the folks who all but demand that Bridgerton fans 'fully grasp and understand' that their show is soft-core-smutty-trash, have done nothing but hype up and treat Heated Rivalry as if it's better than what it actually is: smutty genre fiction.

It's fine to like smutty fiction, I don't care if people are into one or both of these shows, but it has been deeply funny to see people treat the latter as High Art that only Smart People Are Into... when it's as much of a kinda trashy smutty romp as the former.

The first rule of all fandoms seems to be that half the fans are only there to complain about the thing they are supposed to be fans of. It is so exhausting, why must we be there to hatewatch or "ironically" watch, can we not just watch-watch and enjoy it? [Fandom is.... oh, lets say Scrubs and The Wuzzles]
