Do you think it's possible to fall back in love with someone?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-12 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think you can make yourself fall in love again? If you feel like you're unhappy in a relationship and fundamentally dissatisfied with it, is it possible to make yourself feel it again?

Only if both of you work at it. Love is a verb.

Not "make yourself" exactlu but I do think if you work on yourself and the relationship you can fall back in love and be happy in the relationship again. Totally depends on the relationship and specific situation though.

With the same person, once you've fallen out of love? That depends on the circumstances of why the relationship foundered in the first place. So many people stay or return to failing relationships because they're still in love with the person, but none of the problems in the relationship have been fixed, so it's bound to fail again. You need both people actively working on themselves to fix the issues, holding themselves accountable and being responsible and mature, with open communication. That doesn't happen too often.

With a different person? Sure, but it's not guaranteed. I don't think falling in love is the difficult part. Making a relationship work is the difficult part.

If the issues behind the unhappiness and dissatisfaction are addressed, then I think it can happen. But if either there's something about those issues that make them impossible to resolve, or both parties in the relationship aren't willing to make the necessary changes, then the love is unlikely to come back.

While big problems remain unresolved? I suppose it's possible but not very likely.

Resolve the problems first and then see. If they're problems that greatly require your partner's participation, then they need to get on board, or I don't see it working out.

Sometimes it's a personal issue and resolving it may change your entire perception of your partner and relationship. Falling back in love or calling it quits - I could see it going either way, depending on what you find.

If both people are committed to building love and trust, and solving the problems that got them into this place. One person alone can't make a relationship work, if your partner isn't doing their part there's nothing you can do to change them by yourself. But if both partners want to make a change, it's possible to really turn around big issues in a relationship.

If the reason for the dissatisfaction changes, sure. My partner and I went through a rough patch when I was physically ill and she had a huge depression flareup, but we got through it as I got better and was able to look after her a bit more, then she got better meds and we worked it out.
