While big problems remain unresolved? I suppose it's possible but not very likely.

Resolve the problems first and then see. If they're problems that greatly require your partner's participation, then they need to get on board, or I don't see it working out.

Sometimes it's a personal issue and resolving it may change your entire perception of your partner and relationship. Falling back in love or calling it quits - I could see it going either way, depending on what you find.
