There really is an issue with people flocking to cozy games because they do not want to be challenged, and taking criticism of what they like as a personal attack. I think there's also something about purity culture-- "if I like it, it means that it's morally good and correct; if someone is criticising it, then by extent they're saying I'm not good and morally correct" or something like that. I don't know, but it's wild to see.

I think SFA was the wrong place for a Star Trek young adult series. It should have been Starfleet Medical, and it should have been a futureseque version of Scrubs. And the theme tune could be a Star Trek-ised rescore of "I'm no Superman".... I have this fanfic here, take a look... why are you running away?

It's funny how, when shit gets real in your life, fandom stuff can fall to the background and suddenly look so unimportant. I had a crisis in my personal life, and all these things that felt like they really mattered, it suddenly became clear that they did not matter.

Description: The Masters logo, consisting of the word "MASTERS" in white text, and a map of the contiguous United States, with a hole where the state of Georgia would be, and a golf pin with red flag sticking out of said hole.

Transcript: This is literally the only time of year that I give a damn about golf. Once someone wins the jacket, I’m back to not giving a crap for another year. The rest of the year, I’m not interested. I work with a bunch of people who play golf. If invited to play a round, I would accept, but wouldn’t do it solely by myself.

I'm happy that Matt Damon/Ben Affleck shipping has made a comeback.

It's probably not all us old Dogma fans either, but new generation making memes and shitposts?!

I feel like I've been in a prolonged spell of depression. Things that I used to find interesting now just annoy me. I don't care about my fandoms anymore. I will usually keep up with the primary material (new shows, etc) but on a very delayed schedule. I don't engage with anything when it is released anymore, just when I feel like it, which usually takes a long time. I don't get involved in the fandoms hardly at all, and if I try, people piss me off instantly. I just can't find myself able to care, and a lot of things are actively annoying.

Exhibit A from recent times is the moon flyby that just happened. I used to want to be an astronaut, at one point I would have read everything I could about it, but now I'm so entrenched in my own shittiness that I'm like, shut the fuck up, who fucking cares, I'm tired of seeing articles about this.

I wish I knew how to go back to my old self. 😔

Games thread!

I am honestly say that I do not care one bit why someone chooses to play a video game.

I think there's an issue with people rushing to criticize what other people like, just because they don't fit the criteria of what that person thinks is worth spending time on.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-14 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? It’s just video games, people
can play what they like.

Like every dude I knew had that necklace back when it was in style? I never knew they knew each other as teens though, that's super cute!

I totally relate. On the other hand, during some very dark and fucked up times, I took refuge in fandom and was extremely active, always working on fic and art, because it was my escapism. But other situations brought me away from fandom and made me lose interest in my fandom hobbies, and I definitely stopped caring about fandom drama whatsoever. I guess it depends on what kind of problems you're dealing with and whether it's something where you end up with a lot of free time during the crisis for whatever reason, or something where you really just have to focus on the issues at hand for awhile.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe it's just a simple matter of not yucking other people's yum. And you could flip it around on the critics themselves -- are they taking other people's preferences as an attack on their character just because the cozy game fans won't play something that's more challenging or fast-paced?

Also, taking criticism of one's likes as a personal attack is not unique to those games, or video games in general.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-14 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Is the game racist or something? Otherwise, all criticisms are probably bullshit.
