There really is an issue with people flocking to cozy games because they do not want to be challenged, and taking criticism of what they like as a personal attack. I think there's also something about purity culture-- "if I like it, it means that it's morally good and correct; if someone is criticising it, then by extent they're saying I'm not good and morally correct" or something like that. I don't know, but it's wild to see.

Or maybe it's just a simple matter of not yucking other people's yum. And you could flip it around on the critics themselves -- are they taking other people's preferences as an attack on their character just because the cozy game fans won't play something that's more challenging or fast-paced?

Also, taking criticism of one's likes as a personal attack is not unique to those games, or video games in general.

I have certainly seen "criticism" of cozy games that does in fact claim that they're morally bad art (as opposed to the author's favorite games, which are morally good art of course), so I can understand people who are into them being defensive.

Uhhh is this some kind of vaguepost about the people who keep playing Heartopia in spite of the racism of the devs? (Never played it myself, but there was a quest in which a Black NPC pantomimed being a monkey for no apparent reason other than to appeal to racist jokes. The devs banned anyone from the Discord who criticized it. I watched a video on it, and one of the comments also noted that the dark-skinned characters were almost always depicted as working under a fair-skinned character.)

There's also the fact that it's a mobile game, so continuing to engage with it directly benefits them through ad revenue/purchases.

Because otherwise I don't see anything wrong with what genre or difficulty of games people play. That part is a matter of preference.

Honestly, I'm tired of people acting like criticism is some sort of horrible, awful thing. I love my favorite video game, but you'd better believe there are things about it that I will criticize because it's not perfect and as much as I love it, there are things I think it could have done better.

Nothing is flawless. Everything has things that could be improved, and there's nothing bad or wrong about pointing those things out and having a discussion about them. Heck, I've played a lot of live service games where the developers/creators listened to criticism and took it to heart and used it to improve things about the game.

I feel like people may be completely misinterpreting this secret. I'm reading it as "there are people in cozy game fandom who can't take any disagreement, and seem to have thought that playing cozy games would shield them from it." Everyone else seems to be taking it as "anyone who plays cozy games is a filthy casual."

I think SFA was the wrong place for a Star Trek young adult series. It should have been Starfleet Medical, and it should have been a futureseque version of Scrubs. It's funny how, when shit gets real in your life, fandom stuff can fall to the background and suddenly look so unimportant. I had a crisis in my personal life, and all these things that felt like they really mattered, it suddenly became clear that they did not matter.

I feel like I've been in a prolonged spell of depression. Things that I used to find interesting now just annoy me. I don't care about my fandoms anymore. I will usually keep up with the primary material (new shows, etc) but on a very delayed schedule. I don't engage with anything when it is released anymore, just when I feel like it, which usually takes a long time. I don't get involved in the fandoms hardly at all, and if I try, people piss me off instantly. I just can't find myself able to care, and a lot of things are actively annoying.

Exhibit A from recent times is the moon flyby that just happened. I used to want to be an astronaut, at one point I would have read everything I could about it, but now I'm so entrenched in my own shittiness that I'm like, shut the fuck up, who fucking cares, I'm tired of seeing articles about this.

I wish I knew how to go back to my old self. 😔

I am so grossed out by the stuff that's coming out about Katy Perry. I knew that she had a history of some questionable stuff, like when she forced a kiss on an American Idol contestant who had said he was wanting to save his first kiss for his first relationship, and she said gross shit about Justin Bieber when he was a teenager too.

She has now been accused of sexual assault by three people. It's so awful, like why is it SO HARD to keep your hands (and mouth, and all other body parts) to your own damn self? It doesn't matter if you're a rich beautiful celebrity, that does NOT give you the right to touch people who don't want it.

And there are all kinds of other smaller things she has done and comments she has made. UGH.

I really loved her music back in the day, but wow, I am beyond disgusted and done with her at this point. For me this is a "can't separate the art from the artist" thing and I unliked all of her shit on Spotify.

Particularly the Ruby Rose accusation is pretty damn bad so don't click on it if you're sensitive.
