I do feel like, in a lot of ways, there is a missing sense of... I'm not sure if nuance is the right word. Live and let live? Accepting shades of gray? A lot of people just get so wrapped up in stuff that they like or dislike that they do want to position it as a moral thing. Your likes and dislikes don't have to be based in morality. It's ok to like something just because you like it, or dislike something just because you don't. And it's also ok for other people to feel differently about the things you like and dislike. I don't really know where this trend of kind of wanting to assign morality to stuff is coming from.

DA

It's coming from capitalism. Ads tout how good their product is for this issue, or that issue, or you buy from us because you care about this thing or that thing. We're the Green Company, so naturally if you care you buy our shit (which is exactly the same as the other). Kids who grow up in that environment internalize that. It's like the way us olds internalized that the person wearing off brand was poor and to be mocked for being poor. Now, you're not wearing the Good Brand and so you're an evil person. Oh look, you like the Evil Game, that makes you an Evil Person.
