It's coming from capitalism. Ads tout how good their product is for this issue, or that issue, or you buy from us because you care about this thing or that thing. We're the Green Company, so naturally if you care you buy our shit (which is exactly the same as the other). Kids who grow up in that environment internalize that. It's like the way us olds internalized that the person wearing off brand was poor and to be mocked for being poor. Now, you're not wearing the Good Brand and so you're an evil person.
