This is a gross misunderstanding of what it means as a human to connect to media/literature/works of art, even if they're objectively bad.

Something in the stories resonated with them. That's it. It's not a mystery. Nobody is even remotely claiming it's the best writing ever. Stop pretending otherwise just because you're frustrated that more people won't ditch the series. And before you make assumptions (because that's not much of a stretch if this secret is any evidence), I'm not one of those people and believe that fans would benefit from reading other things.
