My main fandom discord is a nice and chill place to hang out and chat with people, it's not a busy server but we have had a few newer people join, which is great!

But one of them is claiming to have DiD.

It's assholy of me but until proven otherwise I am going to be side-eyeing them with extreme caution because every single fandom DiD person I have ever met has caused insane levels of drama because their "alters" just do whatever they want!

They also have a "fictionkin alter" so like, yeah, maybe I'll be wrong but I bet on shit hitting the fan in some way down the line when someone else in the server says/does something that goes against "who they are".

i'd understand people's fervent need to cling to harry potter if the series was actually any good.

but it's basic kids lit if we're being generous.

the fact that so many grown adults hold onto it like it's some god tier level of writing truly makes me belive that those same people haven't progressed past an age 11 reading/media comprehension level.

When it comes to canon couples, Rick and Evie are in my top five, easy. They're so cute together! I ship them forever, in all the sequels except for the one we don't speak of because Rachel Weisz wasn't in it and the actress who replaced her was... well, it wasn't her fault, but it didn't work for me at all. That's canon, though.

In fic, I want dub/non con of this alllllll day long. No romance, because that belongs to Rick/Evie. Sex pollen where Evie is horny, Rick is unavailable and Imohotep is hot = HELL YEAH. Abduction and forced consummation that Evie hates to admit that she really enjoys, EVEN BETTER. I'm also in favor of harem fantasies that involve Anck-su-namun, and Imohotep double-teaming them both like a beast.

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and while I'm definitely not the world's greatest expert at secret design, I'll try my best. Please note that long comment secrets can be difficult to make with a good end result. Most of the time, I'll give it a shot but might not be able to make secrets where the text is so lengthy that I can't fit it into the limited space.

I'm trying something new with the comment secret thread and extending the deadline to comment until Monday's post goes up. I'll monitor this thread until then, and hope the extra day will be more helpful for everyone.

Look, I've never been a HP fan, not even back in the day. IME, most fans DON'T regard as "god tier level of writing". They just like it, because it was a big part of their childhoods, and/or the universe really captured their fancy, and the fandom was huge. The stuff that captures peoples' interests and imaginations isn't necessarily amazing on a technical and literary level. What appeals to people and why is a lot more complicated than just "is it god tier writing".

I can see why having multiple/alternate personalities have such a deep appeal for people. Lots of people struggle to reconcile the different facets of their life and personality, so thinking oh hey, maybe I'm 3 different people can be a tempting way to explain it. It helps people cope with the fact that life is complicated, thoughts and feelings are complicated, and you're not always going to feel comfortable and right in your own skin and in your own head.

I still cringe when I see people doing it without any sort of diagnosis, though.

What you don't get is that good is subjective and that for a lot of people they are good. And, more importantly, for a lot of people they were a big part of their childhood. When we grow up with things, they become entrenched in us, and it can be hard to give them up.

I still think it is bad to give Rowling money or support. But this secret is weird to me. How can't you understand something that maybe isn't objectively "good," whatever that means, is still important to people.

I knew someone who was genuinely Did. We were both at the same psych hospital (I was hospitalized for a month when my depression got so bad I stopped functioning). It seemed really real to me.

Then again, I'm kind of the opposite. I tend to trust people and believe them until they prove otherwise. Has bitten me in the ass quite a few times, but it is just instinctive.

I definitely do side eye fictionkin, though.
