Actual "God tier writing" as claimed by academics has led to some of the most boring ass stories in the history of literature.

This comment brought to you in part by that high school English class I had where the teacher wouldn't stop gushing about the brilliance of The Scarlet Letter as us students slogged through it.

Sounds like a skill issue. I really enjoyed The Scarlet Letter as an eleventh grader.

I don't think skill issue applies here. You can learn about plot and themes, AND dread having to read a story that doesn't appeal to you at all.
