My mental health is spiraling

(Anonymous) 2026-04-18 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't exactly been doing great for awhile now, but lately it's gotten so much worse. I keep having these thoughts that are kind of intrusive thoughts, like "It would be awful if I sent a horrible message to someone" or "What if I did XYZ terrible thing" and I don't want to do those things, but my mind just comes up with them. And then I think about them, and then I feel bad for thinking about them. I am struggling to sleep at night. I've developed an eye twitch. It's all coming at me hard this year. I think this is happening because my life isn't in order. I haven't taken care of myself and my life like I should. How I am living is not in alignment with how I want to live/how I know I should be or need to be living. So I'm all out of whack and my mental health is suffering from it. But fixing it would be scary - I'd have to get a new job, and end my relationship of many years where I have fallen out of love with my partner. So instead I just push through but I know I can't keep doing this forever.

Fixing it or tak8ng a step to fix it doesn't mean you have to do all that. Just start with one small thing that will improve your day to day. Then slowly add one more and one more and eventually you'll be surprised to find yourself in a whole new space and mindset.

If at all possible I strongly suggest therapy. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone just to get it all out of your head, just lioe it helps posting here. A lot of places have low cost or free options if $ is a barrier.

Good luck Anon. I've been where you are and it is a stressful way to live and you deserve better. I'll be rooting for you.

Small steps, and take it day by day. Figure out all the stuff you'd need to do to get back on track and what you'd need to achieve those goals. Take it little by little. So long as you're doing something to work towards those goals, you're making progress!

There's a saying, do you know how to eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Have you had assessment for OCD? Often a feature in intrusive thoughts, which are really common and nothing to beat yourself up over, really. Please don't feel bad about something your brain is doing; you're not doing those things you've thought of! Hugs to you.
