DnD / stomach trouble update

(Anonymous) 2026-04-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Howdy y'all. I'm the anon who was embarrassed that my friend wasn't matching the tone of a DnD game only to realize other players had pokemon based custom classes (FUCKing CHARMANDER!??!?!) only to puke blood the next morning.

A roller coaster, it's true. I've been scoped and mri'd and prescribed drugs and limited to the blandest diet I could manage. I'm feeling much better! I haven't had any repeat issues like what kept me up the night after that fateful game and sent me to the ER. I got the results back from the endoscopy and it seemed super clear that I'd had an ulcer that had healed up that damaged my intestinal villi a bit.

Guys, I have celiac disease.

What even the fuck? I mean sure I have fatigue, brain fog, migraines/headaches, anxiety, and a bit of joint/muscle pain but that's just the depression/almost 40 life of a woman, right? Guess not! Or at least, not entirely. As of today I'm going on a gluten free diet and I sure hope some of the above listed changes.

But no really when the doc came in to prescribe the blood test for celiac I was shocked. Like, I thought she had the wrong file. This was the first stomach issue I've ever had. And the inciting incident is probably unrelated. I feel like I was struck by lighting, a lighting of bloody vomiting, telling me "YOU'RE SICK ACTUALLY!" Almost a miracle really, I never would have figured it out otherwise.

Anyway, thank christ corn chips can be gluten free. I live in a big enough city that there are some celiac friendly restaurants around and my partner is on board with making this a gf house.

Well damn. I mean, hooray that you found out and hopefully can feel better going forward but that wasn't something I'd expect, either!

Thank you

Oh damn. I remember you posts and was wondering how you've been! Good luck on the GF diet. I had GI issues a bit back and the Drs couldn't figure it out so just had me trying all sorts of diets to see if it worked/helped at all. The GF one was surprisingly hard but I was also surprised at how many GF products there are now.

Mine turned out to be a massive kidney stone that caused nontypical reactions until it finally tried to leave my body and sent me to the er. My drs are all still baffled but were basically like "at the end of the day it fixed the issue so yay?" lol

Human bodies are fucking wild. Sorry about the kidney stone, and I hope you don't have to deal with that again.

I'm kind of terrified of eating on road trips or events. I guess I can always just go to a grocery store but omg it feels bad.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. My sister has celiac, she was diagnosed as a kid. THings are better than they used to be since gluten free is trendy. As a kid, my mother basically had to do everything from scratch because you couldn't find gluten free in stores.

Good luck. I really hope you start feeling better. It can do a number on you.

Thank you, I appreciate it. This is probably the best time in human history to have this issue (except for cultures/ages that didn't have gluten in their staple crops) and I'm trying to stay optimistic. I probably never would have found out without a medical emergency, so even shitty things can have positive ramifications.

I'm sorry for your sister and mom, and also so thankful that their (and other gf folks') efforts have made the world easier to navigate for me. <3
