Absolutely true, but my point is that if you micromanage your life to the point of spreadsheets mapping out where every penny of your money ultimately ends up it's not "trying", it's mental illness.

"Trying" is avoiding what you know is contributing to cruelty in the world, making a best effort to stay aware, and accepting that there are deals and contracts behind the scenes you don't know or will forget about.

Paralysing yourself to prevent yourself being contaminated by sin as you try to enjoy life is basically orthorexia, just for the consumption of joy instead of food.

Nobody actually has a spreadsheet about this.

Googling whether or not JKR gets money from universal IS making a best effort to stay aware. It's a quick Google search. You don't have to care enough to do it, but don't act like those who do are micromanaging their lives to the point of mental illness and paralysing themselves.
