Inspired by 3: 80s songs that you love, regardless of how cheesy they might sound.

Duran Duran still has the power to cheer me up in general. "Notorious" - I was so tickled that it showed up in Donnie Darko.

Safety Dance is my forever love, will never skip even if I heard it three times this week on the radio. There are a lot of 80s songs getting more overplayed now as retro/oldies (including in the grocery store omg), more than they were in their own time as top 10 hits, so feeling like this about Safety Dance is very just me.

Go The Distance by Michael Bolton from Hercules. Damn do I love that song. And the non-credit movie version too. And every cover ever.

Isn't that 90s?

Yup. really tired, didn't notice the 80s part in the title, thought we were just looking for cheesy songs.

For 80s ones I like, I guess Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Raining Men, though I don't listen to them that often.

I'm not a fan of that particular song.

Magic by Olivia Newton John. Most of her songs I find much too cheesy to like but I do like that one a lot, especially the chord changes.
Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Kiss On My List by Hall and Oates. Reminds me of a guy I liked in college.

Oh, I hate Tusk.

A ton of them? Thriller, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Total Eclipse of the Heart are apparently "quintessential 80s songs" that I love. But I think a lot of my childhood was listening to music made in the 80s.

SA and I know that was late 70s but I first heard it mid-late 80s (when I was born) so it counts imo

I like that song and don't think it's at all cheesy

This one is a favorite of mine! Instant mood-booster.

Most of them tbh. If it charted at the time there’s a high probability I loved it then and still do now. My current most played 80s song is The Power of Love by Huey Lewis.

I grew up in the 80s with only one (very bland) radio station so I'm not a huge fan of most mainstream 80s stuff. That said, "Venus" by Bananarama was banned at my primary school so I instantly loved it, and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is an all-time great.

Soooo much by the Talking Heads. Love love love. Once in a Lifetime, Road to Nowhere, This Must Be The Place, Stay Up Late, Nothing But Flowers, And She Was, The Great Curve, House in Motion...

But those aren't cheesy-sounding!

I mean, not like, say "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage"...

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship
Here I Go Again on My Own by Whitesnake
Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi
Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield (though I will confess I like the acoustic version better and I'm not entirely sure when that was released)
Kiss Me Deadly by Lita Ford
Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles
Any Way You Want It and Separate Ways by Journey
Look Away by Chicago
The Look by Roxette (Does it make sense? No. Do I care? Also, no. The fact that the lyrics were just supposed to be placeholder lyrics makes me like it more.)Fame and Flashdance... What a Feeling by Irene Cara
Footloose and I'm Alright by Kenny Loggins
Manic Monday by The Bangles
One Moment In Time and Where Do Broken Hearts Go by Whitney Houston
Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell
Alone by Heart
Waiting For A Star To Fall by Boy Meets Girl
Urgent and Hot Blooded by Foreigner
Express Yourself, Dress You Up, and Material Girl by Madonna

"Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder. It's just fun to sing along to.

I agree with those who mentioned "Total Eclipse of the Heart". And on a similar note, I'll add in Berlin's "Take My Breath Away".
