I really wanted to get into it but I am in the NY area so I went to one game and never again because I wanted to stab out my own ear drums whenever the crowd started going "Wee woo wee woo". The most annoying sound in the world.

Plus obviously if you're going to name a women's sports team Sirens, you should be referring to the mythical creature, not literal sirens. Second most annoying thing about it.

So I mostly just support it in theory now.

OP

Wait, the Sirens aren't named for the Greek mythical creatures???? Oh no, that was the main thing I liked about them D:

Nope. From wikipedia: the league stated that the nickname was a reference to New York City's "vibrant sights and sounds".

Because that's a much better association than a beautiful but deadly, water-associated creature. (Insert eyeroll here.)

"vibrant sights and sounds" and they mean sirens?! What in the Stockholm syndrome is this?

My emotional journey has gone from thinking they have a kickass name, to sheer disappointment, and ended smack bang in pity. Have some self-respect, NYC.
