ALL THE ANIMALS!

(Anonymous) 2026-04-30 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's Spring! And that means all the animals are nesting and swooping and having babies! Does anyone have and animal friends or unexpected furry roommates?

We have a bunch of bird feeders in our backyard. Mostly set up to be kitty tv. But I for one find the squirrels trying to get at the bird feed adorable. And we had this huge red bird out there yesterday that I didn't recognize.

On a less fun note, we have two giant ants nests in our yard. We think they might be fire ants or at least a kind that bites. Because some got in our porch, and my kitty's paw seems a little sore and she's scared to go on the porch. Exterminator came today, so hopefully he got them.

I am trying to get two. Maybe. Two cats in my neighborhood who I think may not have owners. One has the big tomcat cheeks.

I've been giving them food. One seems to want to be a house cat, but is a little shy (he was outside meowing on a horribly cold night, he's also come onto the enclosed porch to eat when I left the door open and put some food inside). The other is a scaredy cat. But they seem to be friendly with each other since I saw them both hanging out on a log in my yard together.

We have foxes again this year, which always makes me so happy! We’ve also had a few bears migrate through the forest that borders my neighborhood. I haven’t seen any fawns yet but it’s a little early for them.

We have had lightning bugs though which is absolutely terrible news. Lightning bugs have been active for over a month here and we’re over a month away from their usual first appearance.

I have a fuckton. Robins LITERALLY outside my front door, they've nested in that spot (a perfectly circular nest on top of a floral wreath my mom made, didn't even notice it was there until she started laying eggs and would startle away and chirp at us to hurry up to and from our house.) before a few years ago but my mom threw away the last wreath and put a smaller one up to try to discourage them from doing it again. Well they did it again.

We have Ducks! A nest in the back corner of the backyard. I'm terrified about when they hatch because we have a pool and it took us hours to get them out after they got stuck last time they nested there. The duck mother was upset, the babies were upset, my mom was getting angry, and I was having a panic attack. But they're super cute so it's all good until it happens again lol.

We had Bunnies! My mom saw their nest and didn't know what it was and scared them half to death by grabbing a broom to try and get the fluff out of her planterbox, only to nearly get scared to death herself when half a dozen bunnies scattered

not even done, damn you enter key!

We didn't really get a winter, so the squirrel that lives in the tree outside my house has gotten really fat. He's so cute!

We are getting SO many birds in our garden. My mom had the lawn torn out and now the front and back is all pollinator-friendly plants, mostly native.

We also grow catmint around our roses (the bees LOVE it), so sometimes we get some surprise visitors of a furrier nature... but as long as they're rolling around in the catmint, they're not going after the birds.

I didn't see them (well, I saw bushes rustling, but not the actual animals themselves), but I heard coyotes the other night in my complex. I hear coyotes here way more than I ever see them.

When some people I know said that they started playing the Legacy of Kain games (the Soul Reaver remasters in particular) because they watched a relative playing it when they were an ankle biter.

... The series as a whole is 30 years old this year and Soul Reaver is 26 and I was 14 when Soul Reaver dropped. :')

The fact that between my migraines and my knee arthritis, I can always tell when we're getting rain. And between my knees and my back, my body feels like an old lady body.

I'm watching Ashes To Ashes for the first time and it's set in 1981 and I'm sitting there going, "I remember that year."

I turned 40 last week. But between back pain and what I think is perimenopause I feel ten years older. Also all those 30 year anniversaries for things I remember playing/watching/listening to as a kid. I also tend to grumble about ~kids these days~ a lot.

(Then again, I went shopping with my mom and a cashier was advising my mom to get the app for their store and told her "you granddaughter can explain it to you" and now we're not sure if my mom should feel insulted or I should feel flattered lol.)

An actor I've recently gotten into is 30, and people in fandom keep calling him "the old man" and "cringe millennial". He is THIRTY and BARELY on the edge of Millennial. Way to make my Geriatric Millennial ass feel old.

Venting thread.

For all your venting needs, large or small.

I'm so burned out from being the full time therapist for friends and family. I love them but it's constant and I'm at the point where I start lacking empathy because I just have very little left to give. Especially since I rarely get any back.
I'm even half-jokingly considering getting some qualifications to at least get some money out of it doing it for other people but I know that would probably backfire.

I have to travel back to my hometown this weekend and there's a family member I've gone low contact with who I won't be seeing. Which is what I prefer - I don't want to see or talk to them, because I haven't forgiven them for something they said over the holidays. But. There's a slim (but not zero) chance I'll run into them when I'm back in town, and avoiding lengthy conversation is difficult.

Even if I don't run into them, I'll be constantly looking over my shoulder and being mad about it, mad about the things they said and did and mad that it's spoiling my day and pissing me off. I know this is letting someone live rent-free in my head and I also know they're probably oblivious (or in deep denial, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference) about the offense they caused and that also pisses me off.

One of the plants in my bedroom stinks like weed, especially in the morning when sunlight hits it and I absolutely hate it. I put it in a different room over night and hope it'll not be as bad but ugh, I actually really like that plant.

So tired of "buzzwords" and people repeatedly misusing terms that have specific definitions and are used within specific contexts.

From "everyone's a narcissist" because they did something I don't like to using "word salad" to describe something that the average joe might not understand without full context. And don't get me started on "gaslighting." JUST STOP IT.
