nayrt - Interesting, because I don't think she's brushing it off or dismissing it entirely, only trying to (gently!) make the point that whatever level of fear he knows, there are frightening depths and degrees of it that he's not acquainted with because he's never known winter. Because the character is an elderly woman who's in the position of caring for the Stark children, she's speaking to a literal child.
