Kind of based on 1

Do you like audiobooks? I've listened to a few but I tend to have a hard time paying attention.

They stress me tf out because I have an auditory processing disorder. I *have* listened to audiobooks in the car with other people and if it was a book I've read before it would be fine, stress-wise, but we finally had to just make a no-audiobooks-on-family-car-trips rule after one where the audiobook part stressed out half the people in the car and the subject matter stressed out one person who COULD follow it but did not want to.

I don't like them. But my vision is rapidly deteriorating so. :(

I've listened to some and they're really hit and miss for me. I'm extremely particular about voices and if I dislike the voice, the accent or the way the narrator does the character voices bothers me even a little I'm out.

They're good to fall asleep to, if the reader has a soothing voice.Since I can't sit up for long, I appreciate that quality in them. I like the Project Hail Mary audiobook so, so much, but it's not one for drifting off to.

I like them under very specific conditions apparently: 1) I'm on a mode of transportation that doesn't allow me to read or write and have a long period of uninterrupted time to actually pay attention, and 2) it's a first person narrative with a story and voice I enjoy, so that it ends up feeling more like a friend telling a story than a lecture (I can't stand being talked at but I love an interesting story)

My usual go-tos are The Murderbot Diaries, because they fit nicely into my usual long bus trips, and the Bloody Jack series, which I've loved since I was a kid and has a WONDERFUL reader who sounds exactly like Jacky should, even in her singing voice.

Agree, Murderbot and Jacky both have excellent narrators!

I love audiobooks. I like to listen to them while I work, though they're very hit or miss depending on the voice.

If it's a book I haven't read or listened to before: I like them when I am exercising. It's the perfect time for me, because I am physically doing something that doesn't require any thought, and so my mind can be occupied by the audiobook while my body is occupied while exercising. Similarly, when I'm doing chores or something else that doesn't need focus.

If it's a familiar story: I listen to them at night when I have trouble sleeping, and it lulls me to sleep. I'm really selective about them though. If it's a new book I'll stay awake listening to it so it has to be something I'm familiar with. The narrator has to be good (usually female) and there can't be parts of shouting or screaming.

I love audiobooks, but I'm exceptionally picky with them. Microphone quality has to be good, certain accents and lisps are immediate no-gos, and I can and will drop a book if someone mispronounces certain words consistently.

The original How to Train Your Dragon audiobooks, narrated by David Tennant, are probably the only ones I've actually listened to and are fantastic.

I have aphantasia and have a hard time imagining when I read books, not to mention I'll also mentally blank and then suddenly be somewhere in the next chapter or an audiobook, so have to skip back, much like I did when I was a voracious reader when I was younger. There's a reason why I listen to podcasts only.

No, I can't focus on them and retain any information. ;o;

Sometimes yes, some of them no.
My most strange gripe with them - when audio version leaves too many "he said she said". Especially if you have several voice actors. YES I FUCKING HEAR THAT HE SAID

I haven't been a fan of audiobooks, but I have issues with listening to podcasts and I'm not a fan of audiobooks where there's just one person reading all the voices. Flashbacks to being a kid and hearing some adult man trying to sound like a prepubescent female character and giving me a giant ick.

I might be able to do an audiobook if a specific actor I really liked to listen to was the main voice.
