Because I'm getting tons of PMs and stuff about this: stuff featuring actual porn of lolicon/shota/whatever will be linked, or was supposed to be just linked, just like every other secret featuring explicit porn. But sometimes I make mistakes and a secret gets by that should have been just linked. If a secret is posted that should be linked or warned for, notify me in the name the fandom thread and I'll fix it as soon as I can.

Unfortunately, secrets about lolicon/shota will not be banned because some people think it's wrong or gross or whatever. Some people think fic about rape or gore is wrong or gross or whatever. Some people think slash is wrong or gross or whatever. I'm sure everyone agrees that actual child porn is a bad thing. Lolicon/shota is not actual child porn.

Once again, I'm sorry for letting #127 get past my radar yesterday, and will try not to let it happen again.

No worries. Shit happens. This is all for fun anyway and it's cool that you take the time to bring us all this lolzy nonsense and then watch your inbox get flooded with inane babble.

Thanks. :)

Wow, sorry you got so much shit for making ONE mistake.

I think people need to chill just a little. Yeah, it was shown, and it might have been a trigger to some people and if it happened you have my sympathy, but it was not intentional by any means, so getting mad at [livejournal.com profile] technophile isn't gonna solve anything. And he fixed it after it was brought to his attention, and now he's even posted an apology, so why can't we all just accept that apology and thank him for all his hard work and for bothering to link the images in the first place?

Keep up the good work. I appreciate this community and I'm glad to see that all this shit hasn't gotten you down. :)

Because sadly, that is how the majority of the fandom works pal. D:
You are mostly seeing opinions that are too far, from each side. /either, zomg you got offended, hur!1111 or JESUS, be resident evil cautious next time!11./

Anyway, like people above me said, shit does happen. This community is great, so let us all consider this a "bad break commercial" and move on.

Alright, can anyone explain to me how in the world the secret being put as a link saves people in the countries where lolicon/shota is illegal from the legal trouble?

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Because then the image itself is neither downloaded to your PC or placed in your temp files.

Yep. I sure am.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work, and sorry for all the crap from the butthurt crybabies out there. You're doing a great thing for fandom with this comm.

It's true that people have different squicks and such, (and I totally understand why someone would be upset about seeing that secret, I really do) but please, don't blame technopile. He didn't do it on purpose. I'm sure he knew it should be under a link or something. Guys, he posts almost 70 secrets everyday. See it like this: most secrets do not need to be under a link. So, posting 70 secrets everyday might get really, really dull. He might've assumed that the secret was under a link but accidentally posted it the way it was. When you repeat something over and over and over again your concentration sways. It's like you lose focus.

Still, I understand why someone would be upset. I do.

However, blaming technopile like that is pretty uncalled for.

I was upset, but I never blamed him :\

You do an awesome job - there's a LOT of things that have to be filtered. The fact that people can even get angry at this in the first place means that it's obviously something that doesn't happen often.

Thank you for acting quickly to get this fixed, and thank you for being respectful to those who were triggered/bothered, and just in general, thank you for being awesome at being a mod. Your hard work is really appreciated, even if most of us never say that. :3

hi,

I've only been hanging around for a few days, but I wanted to let you know that I don't blame you for 127 slipping through. You've taken it upon yourself to do a huge job, mistakes will happen for any number of reasons, and your apology is more than enough. Don't let it get you down. Thanks for doing this and please keep it up. This place is an extra special bright spot in my day.

Thank you for not sanctifying censorship and banninating things to satisfy the mob mentality. Much love from me to you. You do an amazing job with this comm and have all my respect.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
What mob was asking for it to be banned?

Lolicon/shota is not actual child porn.

Agreed. Not a fan of loli, shota etc. but leaving it in as just a link is fair.

And for however much time this comm must take you to update every day, surely mistakes are forgiveable.

Lolicon/shota is not actual child porn.

Agreed. I'm glad you made an apology, since I could see how some people would be offended having to see something like that. I understand that everyone makes mistakes, though.

Since a couple of people mentioned it:

(Anonymous) 2009-12-17 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Temp files?

Temp files What?

Ok,
Practical Question:

Say someone frequented a certain site (rule34.paheal.net to pick an example right out of the air) and this person lived in the UK.

Say this person scrolled past all the loli and shota and focused on the good stuff (and the not so good, but not Child related) Are you saying this person might want to think twice about handing his PC over to get mended?

Am I going to prison? I dont want to go to prison, They'll Do to me the same thing that is being done in the 'not so good stuff'

------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh,
and people need to chill the fuck out with this stuff. Your the mod of this community, (and have so far done nothing short of a spectacular job) but you have no obligation to do shit.

If you felt like it you could spam this comm with wall to wall Rape, CP, or beastiality, and no-one would have any right to say shit about it. (Im sure they'd FEEL entitled, but that dont make it so)

Fact that you're going so far out of your way to not show anything offensive is down to nothing but your own personal feelings of what you should do, not any other obligation, People need to be thankfull that you take their feelings into consideration, and not tear into you when you miss somthing. You owe people jack shit, and they need to stop taking your kindness for granted.

Fucking Jerks.

[identity profile] goatsfoot.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thankyou for the apology, mate. You made a mistake, and it was a mistake with huge consequences to many people, so it is entirely in proportion that they should express that they are upset, and to ask that it doesn't happen again. I'm not seeing "hate" or rage at [livejournal.com profile] technophile, but it's the way things go - if you make a small mistake, IRL or online, and it has huge consequences (such as triggering people and taking a few hours to calm down) - then you certainly hear about it. I really do think that most people understand that mistakes happen - but it is unreasonable to expect that people do not react to the consequences.

I'm really relieved that an apology was made - because that tells me that it's the sort of comm I can have faith in and stick with, and that more attention will be paid to the content of the secrets - and that this is much less likely to happen again. Dealt with. Done. How we humans sort these things out. If you're having difficulty processing all those secrets, [livejournal.com profile] technophile, could you consider getting others in to help manually filter and sort the secrets?

Cheers for all your hard work. People taking issue with a particular aspect of your moderation, does not negate at all the overall gratitude.

Personally, I think it'd be inappropriate for f!s to fit the model of a community that some people seem to have - that you Take What You Can Get, and that the person who has the power in the community has no obligations whatsoever to the rest of the participants. I prefer a give-and-take communities where the moderator, who has the power to veto content, after all, is accountable to the participants who provide that content. Many people prefer communities like this. It doesn't make them entitled for wanting this - it makes them want a community which isn't a vicious maelstrom of quasi-anarchy. In fact, it is the most entitled and privileged who will often prefer a community where minorities can be insulted with immunity, and triggers for abuse abound. Entitled to shit on others, in other words.

I'd never heard of lolicon or shota before that secret. Interesting learning curve.

I'm just annoyed this happened on a day when I was too busy to go through fandom secrets so I missed out on the actual brou-ha-ha.

You do an awesome job. Illegitimi non carborundum

(Anonymous) 2009-12-18 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't there. Checked out the secret. I didn't think it was a big deal, the loli thing. Guro grosses me out but it's just another fetish and I've come to accept it. Trust me, there's probably worst things than a moe blob having sex... In manga, people have to understand that as crazy as it sounds, it's another artform that you or I might not like. Japanese artists in the industry tend to draw girls younger by default. I'm not making excuses for them but don't waste your breathe getting angry. If it was a troll, you'd be feeding them nicely.

While I don't see the big deal about these two things in particular, I can understand why others would be pissed. I just imagined what it would be like if something I hated was shown graphically, probably furry sex or something, and I can relate instantly. I understand the legal aspect as well because before I even considered it, I just thought people were bitching. I would be angry too if I was forced to view illegal content.

All in all, technophile, I have no problems with you and since you apologized, neither should others. If they still don't forgive you, they're just weak whiners that shouldn't even be on the internet.
