The thing is you can kind of accidentally create homoerotic subtext with the kind of relationship Johnlock in canon was, ie: the Buddy Cop duo, who are basically as far as the text is concerned written in a romantic way but because the characters in those dynamics are nearly always two men the audience and the creators will never see that romantic potential because they're both men.

I'm not saying that it's okay, just that this is why you get dynamics like this and they'll never be canon because of it.
