I've legit had people who ship the same thing as me either block me or spread weird interpretations of things I've said for being involved in polite discussions where I said I wasn't expecting an adaptation to go there, because of where the characters ultimately end up in the books/original canon. Apparently I should be yelling at show runners and rich shareholders to give me what I want instead of writing fic like everyone else has done since forever...

(Another fan and I bonded over this weirdness and regularly say to each other, "sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!" about this phenomenon.)
