I'm really sorry that your 'friend' is pressuring you to write something that you don't want to write. The fact that you don't want to should be all they need to know.

Obviously, what you decide to do is up to you, but please make sure that you're in an okay place if you do decide to tell them what's behind your revulsion at this ship. There are lots of people in fandom (and irl) who understand, but not everyone is in the position to respond appropriately to that kind of disclosure. The kind of person who can't see why someone wouldn't want to ship an adult and a child (and I'm making no judgment of their kink) is possibly someone who can't give you the response that you might want.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes me LOL that the actor playing the supposedly younger version of the character looks as old as the actor he's playing a younger version of.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What? That kid looks way younger than Sam.

[identity profile] aldehyde.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
er, brock doesn't look as old as jensen, and colin definitely doesn't look as old as jared.

God, your friend should lay off. Even if you didn't have a very personal reason for disliking the ship, your squick is okay and should be respected!

Your friend is awful. =|

[identity profile] minalskare.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She should listen to you regardless of the reason.
I hate when people try to push their ships on me.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand, Anon. And honestly, you shouldn't need to justify your squicks and your friends should just take your dislike of the ship at face value and leave it alone.

My own experience with abuse means that I don't watch certain tv shows and movies and I don't like certain ships. If my friends have a problem with that, they can suck it. And I'm not going to roll out my own trauma, hurting myself in the process, to explain something so small as fandom to them.

You should never have to disclose in order to defend a personal preference. Not only is it a huge violation of your privacy, one which you should be able to control, but also it implies that only good reason not to ship something/like a show/whatever is a history of similar trauma. And that's dumb just on the face of it.

I've found in fandom that sometimes I have to be what I would consider rude but what others apparently see as just being firm in order to say, "no thank you." It sucks but sometimes it's necessary. Good luck!

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you should be more adamant about the fact that you don't ship it. As a friend, s/he'd either have to be completely inconsiderate or a moron to keep pushing, especially because of the nature of this ship.

Tell this friend straight out that you refuse to ship it and that you won't change your mind. It's fully within your rights, even without full disclosure as to why.

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the folks who say you shouldn't have to justify your squicks. You might try telling her that incest/pederasty squicks you to the point of nausea, though, and that if the subject comes up again, you reserve the right to get up and leave the conversation.

[identity profile] iamashamed.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry. Anyeone who pairs a child and a adult has some serious issues, it isn't you who should feel ashamed. I'm sorry you have to see people be so clueless about things like that.

WHERE IS THAT PROMO PICTURE FROM?!

[identity profile] llivla.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Incest is fucked up, ancient cultures aside. Your friend not getting you aren't interested in those types of dynamics/relationships is horrible, especially if she knows full well of your background. It's bad enough s/he's pushing it on you when it's incest despite Sam and Dean are consenting adults with a different power balance, but incest when they're kids with a four year age difference? I'm surprised you aren't having triggered episodes or blown up at him/her yet. Stand up for yourself, you don't have to get massively deep with him/her, just lay down the law: 'No. I have a massively opposite reaction to this that you do, and you come across as inconsiderate when you don't respect my preferences by backing off.' It shouldn't be a huge issue for this person to do so. :/

Or maybe it's time to distance from him/her for a while? :(

[identity profile] aldehyde.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
that's horrible :( you definitely shouldn't have to disclose your reasons for not wanting to read this ship [or anything else that squicks you] but perhaps you could just tell her without going into specifics that this is definitely not something you want to read/talk about, and ask her to lay off? i mean incest's a pretty big squick for a LOT of people, and even if it wasn't, you've every right to say that.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. I have a similar reaction to a different type of ship and I wish I could tell people to not mention it around me, but without explaining why, I feel that would be unfair...

Honestly if your "friend" can't accept that you just don't like the pairing then they aren't that great of a friend. You shouldn't need to explain yourself about pairing preferences. And if you feel like you need to elaborate saying you don't like incest should really be enough.

Basically it's really shitty to push someone into a pairing they've expressed a dislike for. Whatever the reason behind the dislike.

Beyond that I'm really sorry that you had to go through that with your step brother. Don't feel like you need to tell people about it if you don't want to.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
People should respect your right not to ship something without you having to tell them why it disturbs you. I don't ship plenty of stuff my friends love, just because I don't feel like it, and they leave me alone about it.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds to me like your friend doth protest too much (or, well, something like that.) If they keep trying to push their ship on you (especially one that's incest, and I mean there should be no question that that's obviously going to be a problem for some people), it sounds more like they're trying to justify it for themselves, and getting you into it would be more to feel normal in shipping it than to bother or upset you.

If you haven't told them the reason why you can't ship them, they might not get how serious a deal it is for you. But really, you should never need to defend yourself for not shipping something, just like your friend shouldn't need to defend themselves for liking a ship that others might not agree with.

I'm sorry they won't listen to you. Maybe you could tell them that you have your reasons for not shipping them, and they're personal, and ask that they please stop trying to push it onto you. If they still don't listen then, they sound like a pretty crappy friend, if you ask me.

[identity profile] ginzai.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that sucks ass and you have my sympathies. Weecest squicks me to hell and back and as accepting of kink as Supernatural is, it's still considered impolite to shove Weecest stories off onto people who really dislike them.

If you haven't done it already, I'd tell them flat out that they need to knock it off, that the pairing squicks you, and if they don't, you'll have to defriend them. You definitely don't need to say why - the age difference and age range alone are enough that most should be able to understand why it's not for everyone. If it's not, then I'd be worried about your friend's sense of reality. It's one thing to justify something as a kink and to say that it's not real, it's something else entirely to not be able to understand why someone would have an issue with it - especially a kink as controversial as underage porn.

I'm guessing that they think they'll be able to "convert" you if they keep trying and if you aren't firm about it, it'll just keep happening. Best of luck with it, anon.

[identity profile] wpadmirer.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Someone who's not experienced incest can't possible understand the horrendous breach of trust that goes on with it. It was my father, and it took me years to be able to say it out loud and not feel shame.

Just remember, you weren't at fault, and it's okay to never be okay about it.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's understandable. I think it's the forbidden-ness that makes a lot of people like it, but your POV makes a lot of sense. I'm really sorry that happened to you.

[identity profile] twitchytwitch.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, what an adorable-looking pair of siblings.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, anon. You should just be firm and resolute about it. If she (he, possibly?) doesn't listen to you, she's not being a very good friend.

[identity profile] riveryklown.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, I really don't think you need to tell your... friend or whoever, why you don't want to ship them. It shouldn't be up for much discussion since it is incest and (in the pic at least) one of them is a minor. Take your pick of things that could gross you out.
No one should force you into shipping something you don't want, your specific situation aside.
And I am really sorry, anon :(

i concur with you with the firey passion of a thousand suns. yes i read the fic, but my mind changes one of them wth my own personal OFC.
