The picture is of the character Wesley from "Angel".

The character made a tragic mistake and kidnapped Angel's son Connor after being fooled by a fake prophecy that Angel would kill the baby (and being an idiot and not telling anyone who could have helped about it). The result of this was that the baby fell into the hands of a fanatical enemy of Angel's who took the kid to Hell dimension and raised him to hate Angel's guts. Oh and Wesley got his throat cut and nearly died after which Angel tried to suffocate him in the hospital.

My view is that Wesley was stupid about it but it wasn't entirely his fault - the prophecy was part of a long game set up by another enemy of Angel's. And ultimately it's Wolfram and Hart's fault for bringing Connor's mother back from the dead.

I don't fault Wesley for that. I fault him for being a total douchebag in other situations though, being such an absolute creeper towards Fred, and other shit. Meh. More for everyone else as the saying goes. But really, if we're supposed to forgive Cordy for being possessed and doing actual evil things, can't a measly well meaning and freaked out human be forgiven for being manipulated by evil forces? Hell, do we forgive Angel for all he's done? Of course we do. Even Angel eventually forgave Wes. You can't?

Because Wesley never suffered for it or anything. It's not like he got abandoned by what he thought was his friends, got his throat cut, had his best friend try to strangle him while he was in the hospital, sliced his arm open for said friend, and then got his girlfriend killed while thinking it was his best friend that did it. Am I missing anything?

Seriously though, I'm still pissed at Gunn and Fred for not doing anything. Angel still being pissed made sense, but why didn't anybody else forgive him? I blame the writing for it and for making Wesley act like a creep towards Fred, and insisting that he loved Fred even though they had all the chemistry of a wet paper bag. Wesley deserves some sort of apology.

Wes's audacity to be butthurt by everyone blaming him for kidnapping Connor still makes me breathless. He kidnapped Connor, and played right into Holtz's hands. Every bit of pain and misery Connor experienced in the hell dimension, the abuse at Holtz's hands, the twisting of his mind, can and should be laid at Wes' door.

He could have owned up to it. I love Wes (well, dork Wes, not stalker Wes), but he was wrong.

Then again, I'm a parent.

Warning: This comment is coming from extreme bias as I am a total Wesley whore. Sorry for late comment being late. Also, general sleepiness clouds wording.

I completely understand why someone would think the same as OP does. However, in-universe, the reaction of the Angel cast struck me as rather odd. I know it's a different writing crew, but it was around the same time we have the whole evil Willow plot going on in Buffy. And I know it's bad to compare evils and stuff but... Willow skinned a man alive, mercilessly terrorized all her friends and tried to end the mother effin' world. I mean, not to say kidnapping babies is anything lighthearted or anything, but it honestly makes what he did look a almost tame in comparison. Yet, at the end of it all, the Scoobies are pretty damn forgiving and sympathetic (also: not trying to bash Willow here, she too is one of my faves). Realistically Angelcrew's reactions are more than justified... but watching both these in-universe situations unfold at the same time, it made Angel and co. seem a bit more heartless in comparison.
