Are you implying it somehow matters that he thinks women are "needy" and can't live without men; and that being a middle class man is SO HARD[1] (http://news.scotsman.com/doctorwho/Time-Lad-scores-with-sex.2535185.jp).
Or that, as he said in his interview in DW Magazine #385, that it's perfectly natural for men to commit adultery ("have you met a man?").
Or, indeed, that character development is completely unnecessary (in the same article as [1]).
Or that Rose is a "clingy girlfriend" (SDCC panel) whereas the Doctor, who attempted suicide at least once after losing Rose, clearly doesn't have any such problems. Of course, if I start talking about how his episodes could be interpreted, I'd be here a while, and while normally I might relish the opportunity, I don't have the time at the moment.
True, maybe he is no worse than 90% of TV out there and it's not like RTD is some magic sparkly angel of feminism, but most of them don't do interviews where they whine about how tough being a middle-class man is.

I can't achieve that disconnect and I don't want to. And what's more, having read these interview quotes, every time I watch a Moffat episode I end up re-evaluating everything. I recognise part of this is my issue, but I don't want to make myself like it, so I don't care.

But a) in knowing his opinions, I can't help but notice more and more how problematic his work is. Given the way he's written the episodes he's already done, I think it does show.
And b) I... don't want to. I'm not marching on the BBC demanding he be hung drawn and quartered but I'm sticking to my opinion that people who say that sort of thing shouldn't be encouraged and not turning in or buying any merch.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-16 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not saying all this is horribly sexist or anything like that, but to me it's hardly an example of strong female characters.

I don't see it as sexist and I really can't see how it could be, nor could I see how they were weak. In fact it's definitly a theme in DW with women saving the universe on a regular basis not just the Doctor.

My issue with that comment is that, from an objective standpoint, both the Doctor and Rose were equally clingy. Rose used her clinginess to build the dimension cannon. The Doctor used his to, well, emo a lot (and obviously did all the other stuff we saw in s3). I think anyone who denies their entire relationship is a bit clingy is watching the wrong show, but Moffat singled out Rose, the woman, when he's previously called all women "needy" and said they're basically out for husbands.
If he'd called them both clingy I think it would have been a far more accurate statement and less indicative of his bias.
