Is this just irrational instinctive allergic reaction or do you have a reason why you hate it?

I'm not the OP but here's why I hate it:
There's no method behind the madness (in the original). There's a lot of random stuff happening, OK. But at the end of it all what have I learnt except that Alice is a brat?

IIRC some of it is (or can be interpreted as) just random political/social commentary, though most of it is nonsense. Of course, I loved it as a kid because kids love nonsensical stuff. I memorized the Jabberwocky poem so I could recite it at a school talent show but I got heckled and laughed off the stage at rehearsal so I decided not to do it at the last minute.

Apparently there are mathematical allusions in some bits, but I was so put off by the surface-level stuff I never bothered to retain any of that. I'm sorry you were mocked over the poem, but I'm afraid my dislike for the books started when I was a kid and, as I noticed when I tried to read them again recently, hasn't gone away.

I read it for the puns and craziness, so I understand this complaint ;) If it was supposed to be an allegory, it was too metaphorical for me to see :)
