I love foreskin when appropriate, but it really only bothers me in fic if it's somehow obviously missing, which can be hard to do. I mean, I squee a bit inside if a fic mentions something to do with the foreskin, but if they don't I usually don't freak out.

It does bother me a lot to see fanart where there's no foreskin. Like, even that can be handled okay because an erect cock with a foreskin looks pretty similar to a cut one, but if you've got . . . I dunno, fanart of a flaccid Harry Potter and he's clearly cut, yeah. That bothers me a lot.

I wrote hobbit porn with foreskin once, so fear not! It bugs me more when people say hobbits are gross because they have hair on their feet. wtf.

Does fandom ever step back and recognize it's own ridiculousness, I wonder? The naked fanart of Harry Potter bothers no one - it's the lack of foreskin.

I'm not actually into Harry Potter, that was just an example I figured a lot of people would get. I mean, there's no reason Harry would be circumcized.

But, no. Naked fanart of characters I want to see fanart for doesn't bother me. If I'm already looking at the fanart, I've already accepted that. Mind you a lot more than just missing foreskins would bother me. I don't mind some artistic license, but I do like the people to resemble who they're supposed to resemble.

ETA: This thread made me go back through my PRONS folder, and... I never noticed this before, but in this one Gundam slash pic I have, Garma Zabi is uncircumcised. But IIRC in most of the slash porn I have on my computer, Japanese or otherwise, all the dudes are circumcised.

I'm not into HP so it was actually just an example I figured everyone would get, but considering the amount of HP fanart out there, I don't doubt that cut, flaccid (of age) Harry art exists. And I'm sure it's all down to ignorance of the artist, who thinks that that's the norm and not the abnorm.

I do know I've seen fanart for other characters in other fandoms (more obscure) where the character is cut and it makes no sense to me that he is. For instance, Doctor Who. I just can't fathom that the Doctor would be cut. I guess it's possible since he regenerates with different hair, but regenerating specifically without a foreskin seems really fucking weird to me. Like, to me that's akin to randomly regenerating without eyelids.

Yeah, it isn't something like colour or length of hair, height or exact bone/muscle structure or even skin colour if we ever get a non-white Doctor. It's a part of your body's anatomy just as much as an eyelid or fingernail. And you don't see him regenerating without those.


And also the guy is a Time Lord and I've no idea why they'd want to make cut the norm there. They're Time Lords. They're more likely to see it as a quirky trait of some backwards cultures or something. Though that's how they see mostly everything so that's not saying much.

Honestly, if you're going to draw a picture of a naked character look into where he comes from in case there are any traditions that would show on a naked shot and not a clothed one. And if it's an alien or an elf or something, look into the traditions of the author and what they seemed to do for the culture they invented and go with that. Tolkien was English - so I assume he went with British norms. Especially as he was trying to do the entire 'lets give Britain a myth of her own that isn't stolen' thing alongside the explaining of his languages.

Though that's now making me wonder about Vulcans. Cause American creator, but they're really very logical so they'd need a logical reason to do it. Though they're also rather traditional so could maybe go either way with them.


ETA: That's assuming a Vulcan penis looks remotely like a human penis. Or that you aren't going the route of traditional Kirk/Spock porn and making the Vulcan penis self lubricating/rigged/double/whatever other odd thing you can think of.

Yeah. I think you could describe why the Doctor is circumsized somehow, but I also think to do so would be sort of like the author going, "I think foreskins are SO ICKY I have to write a whole long pointless thing about why the Doctor is circumsized!!" It just makes a lot more sense that he wouldn't be.

As for Vulcans, ahahahaha, I admit I'm not enough into Trek to have considered that, but if I was writing Trek porn, I think I'd have them uncircumized too, presuming I had them have humanlike penises. And since everything else but the tips of their ears is the same, I think it'd be weird to have a totally alien penis for them.

However, for that matter, I'd also write Kirk, McCoy, Sulu, etc., as uncircumsized too. That's probably my preferrance for foreskins showing through, but I'd like to assume that far into the future most people have stopped doing something that is, to me, completely unnecessary and excessively dangerous.

I haven't read enough Trek porn to have seen it myself, I'm not a porn fan, but it's one of those things in K/S circles. Spock's penis had to have some weird, alien thing to it. I think there's some kind of drinking game based on K/S or maybe just TOS slash and there's many ways to rack up shots based just on that.



And yeah, I generally assume that in the future it'll die out too. Not be gone, just no where near so common in the circles it's still the everyday thing in. Kinda like I figure most of the fundies or even a lot of the devout, or the ones for current religions anyway, will die out. Mostly cause I can't see any of the human characters on Trek being the go-to-holly-house-of-worship-every-week type thing. Except Sisko with the prophets but he's in a bit of an odd position. They'll all be there still just kind of fade.

And they are dangerous. My cousin's son, who is American, was cut not long back after he was born. But it was done wrong. Twice. And the doctor doing it and the nurses around didn't even admit to it. The only think I'm greatful for is the kit won't remember it when he grows up but cause of how they messed it up... there may be scars.

Sisko was an adult by the time he got all religious anyway, so unless he got circumcized as an adult, that wouldn't make sense anyway. I think Vulcans to have super alien peens would be weird. Cardassians, on the other hand, would be weird to have super human peens, since they're not. If that makes sense.


I have heard way more horror stories about circumcisions that went wrong than I have about uncircumcized penises going wrong. I mean, there are cases where circumcision is needed, but (to me) that should be the only time it's done. I'll accept religious reasons (not my religion, not my place), though I personally think that's also archaic, barbaric and foolish as well. Better than sacrificing humans, yes, but, um. Seriously? Yeah.

Well, that's old TOS fandom for ya. Though I agree with the Cardassians, they're reptiles basically though they seem to have lost their scales in most places.


And yeah, I don't agree with it either. I think if as an adult you choose to have it done that's fair enough. If there is a medical reason then okay. Other than that I don't think it's right. But I've not the right to demand that parents chose otherwise, force them to even if I could.

Obviously that is just lack of thought on the fanartist's part. They just think "naked!" and in their country (assuming the US of course) naked dudes don't have foreskins, so there you go. I would wager that most Americans have probably never seen an uncircumcised penis before.

AFAIK the Victorians started circumcising baby boys to try to discourage them from masturbating, so it's certainly not unheard of over there. All the arguments about cleanliness, etc., get tacked on a bit later.

I'm so glad someone brought this up! It is SO NOT about "cleanliness", folks.

It's a barbaric custom that was begun by the medical community at the end of the 19th century to keep boys from masturbating, that's IT. (in the U.S.; I don't know anything about other societies' male circumcision histories)
