Great choice of picture. I think it will surprise you that there are many other real cultures who practise circumcision besides Americans. Many times as a part of a coming-of-age ritual. Google. No reason why some of the fictional cultures couldn't have it as well. Granted, Tolkien didn't really discuss this particular part of his world's background, but ... that's what fan fiction is for.

You, ah, don't get around much eh anon? A whole lot more than just Americans regularly practice circumcision - not only is it part of a number of other cultures and has been for ages, but the American aesthetic has gained influenced the world over. I agree with one of the above posters that you wouldn't find a man in Meiji Era Japan who was cut, but in modern day Japan you sure could.

I love foreskin when appropriate, but it really only bothers me in fic if it's somehow obviously missing, which can be hard to do. I mean, I squee a bit inside if a fic mentions something to do with the foreskin, but if they don't I usually don't freak out.

It does bother me a lot to see fanart where there's no foreskin. Like, even that can be handled okay because an erect cock with a foreskin looks pretty similar to a cut one, but if you've got . . . I dunno, fanart of a flaccid Harry Potter and he's clearly cut, yeah. That bothers me a lot.

I wrote hobbit porn with foreskin once, so fear not! It bugs me more when people say hobbits are gross because they have hair on their feet. wtf.

Well, aside from porn not usually being that realistic, from what I gather, and that there are other cultures who do it... and I don't really read porn... I agree.

Not only is it not common in many places, to some groups it's completely alien as a normal thing. One of my cousins (in Tennessee) had a baby boy not long back and had it done - only it went wrong and they tried again and still got it wrong and poor baby boy. But whilst my mom (the American) was telling my dad not only was he appalled the doctors got it wrong but was rather horrified and shocked that it was done just like that. As normal. I swear I saw him get as close to crossing his legs as he could without actually doing it.

And then there's John Barrowman's story of growing up in the US and showers at school given he'd been born in Scotland where it's not done, except for a few people.

So applying that standard to everyone is nuts.

But just the same, assuming it's only two groups who do it is also nuts. Though you did say another 'good reason' so I'm guessing you know that.

But really, when you get down to it, an uncut cock looks a lot like a cut one when hard. A lot of times the foreskin will retract and other than the head looking a little wetter. This depends on the guy, as some have more foreskin than others. But it's really not that big of a detail, I mean, even foreskin covers the glans while erect it's going to be pulled down at some point and usually remain down until the penis becomes flaccid again.

I have agree with the "if they go eww, I want to punch them in the face" because yeah, insulting a guy's penis is THE fastest turn off.
