I dislike her in the manga but still like her in the first anime. Am I half-sexist?

It makes you fully sexist!!!1 Riza has so much more depth and ~character development~ in the manga, she was just Roy's accessory in the anime! Not at all like in the manga!

Yeah, you're right, that totally describes Winry and Riza and Izumi and Olivier. In some bizarro FMA manga.

I was talking about Winry and Riza only. I thought that was obvious from the context.

Winry has become an awkward love interest. Her Tsundere antics with Edward piss me off.

Riza's entire character is defined by a man. This was also the case in the first anime, but at least people are willing to acknowledge it instead of passing it off as something else.

As for Olivier, well...she's a two-dimensional, generic badass. Whoopie.

And, before I get accused of anything, I am a complete nonshipper. I just want gen.

I'll go ahead and utter some blasphemy, then. I hope I don't get jumped while crossing the street. Fffft.

I don't like the direction Arakawa is taking with most of her female characters. I feel that she is purposefully making badass female characters instead of making badass characters who just happen to be female. This is especially blatant with Olivia, and all of it just feels like she's overcompensating for the weak female characters apparent in other shonen manga.
