I hated RoyAi because... I hated Roy. Hawkeye is far too cool for him. (Hated RoyEd too.)

Well, it's perfectly possible to dislike her for some other, valid reason. But yes, in my experience, all those I've met who actively hate her obviously do for one of those.

Uhm... I love RoyEd, and guess what? I love Riza, too. With Havoc, plzkthx. She tops. I'm not sure what fandom you're floating around in, but for the first time in my fandom experience, I found the het fans to be way more aggressive than the yaoi ones. Yes, I like Roy/Ed and Alfons/Ed. No, I don't like EdWin or RoyAi as anything more than friendship. This doesn't make me an asshole or a misogynist. -_-;;

As the commenters thusfar have said, though, generalization. To those who dislike Riza, and to those who like RoyEd.

I love Riza. I don't like Winry, and no not cause OMG she's in the way of Roy/E, cause I also ship Roy/Riza. Some just don't like characters. ANd you say an immature slasher? Well a friend of mine got banned from a het comm from the fma fandom. She went to look at some brotherhood pics posted there and the Ed/Win and Roy/Riza fans were bashing the yaoi fans and the mod let them :/ So the het fans are just as bad as some of the yaoi fans. I've seen Ed/WInry fans bash and hate on Rose cause they say she's n the way of Ed/Winry :/ Hell I love Rose and ship Al/Rose also. Disliking character doesn't always mean it's cause said character is in the way of a ship

I could see somebody just plain disliking her (I'm not saying I understand it, but I have heard that it has been known to happen) with no ulterior motive. But yeah, when people get all bent out of shape and start character bashing, either Riza or any other competent character with actual or potential romantic ties to one of the mains, it seems to me like the only motivation is resentment of the way that she complicates the hater's OTP.

Exactly. Rabid shippers are more willing to forgive unrepentantly evil characters than they are characters who get in they way of their ships. And, unfortunately IME female characters in particular come in for this, because a lot of fangirls prefer male/male pairings in anime/manga featuring hetero couples.

Get back to me when her existence serves some point other than being Roy's convenient support. If she has any hopes and dreams other than seeing Roy lead Amestris she has yet to show then. Sure, standing by one's man is a valid lifestyle choice, but anyone who sees her a strong female character is mistaking badassery for strength. Complexity is what defines true strength, and shw has always felt pretty one-dimensional to me.

And no, I don't hate her. At all.

I love Riza! She's one of my favourite female characters from FMA, even if I can see why people don't warm to her. I also love Roy/Ed. I also like Roy/Riza. And original!Greed/Riza. ♥

But way to generalise :/ People can just not like a character/ship because they just don't like it, you know? I happen to dislike EdWin a lot because they just don't click for me as a romantic pairing and seems pretty forced at points, not because it gets in the way of any other pairings or what not.

I'm one of the few who can't really see Ed in a romantic relationship canon wise.

Is that all she is? A strong woman and someone to be shipped with Roy (or possibly Ed)? Has she no other traits that people might find unappealing? Can't someone dislike her simply for her personality, not her gender or her part in a romantic relationship?

Honestly, I ship pretty much everyone/everyone, but she was never my favorite character. Not because she is a strong woman (Olivia is a strong woman and I think she's hott!!!) but because I find her kinda boring. She's not my least favorite either. She's just a sort of there character.

I don't think this secret was aimed at those of you who have no opinion on Riza or merely dislike her. The secret doesn't say "if she's not your favorite character" but "if you hate her."
