Man, this would have caused such wank if it was posted.

Silly anon, fandom isn't about science and reason, it's about buzzwords and drama.

Re: TB

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
+1. This is especially true in fanfics and...well, everything.

Re: TB

Maybe the OP can write a paper about the problem of having research results ignored due to assumptions about the researcher in fandom. And I mean that seriously, actually.

I'd just as soon you stuck around OP. The more views the better -- especially when they've got some back up.

Psychology is as much a science as anything else.

Oh my god, fuck you >:| I don't think you realize how hard we psychologists have to work to actual make our work valid. It is a pain. in. the. ass.

So fuck and you, sir!

Re: TB

Psychology does not follow the scientific standards of hypothesis formulation and experimentation. Therefore, it is not a science. That doesn't mean it's not a valid or important field of study; it just means it's not a science. "Not science" is not an insult.

Take it to comments

(Anonymous) 2010-02-26 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know a great deal about copperbadge, tbh, but it's their right to hide their identity if they want to. Yeah, I can understand you wanting to know, but it's their issue, not yours. You aren't entitled to know the gender of a stranger on the internet. C'mon.

Also? Some of us don't do it to generate public interest, but because we genuinely don't want to be judged. You might be cool with it, but other people aren't always so accepting. If somebody feels more comfortable posing as a different gender, or keeping it a secret, that's their right.

Re: Take it to comments

(Anonymous) 2010-02-26 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but...

but it's their right to hide their identity if they want to.

But [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge doesn't do much to hide his identity. Not only does he talk about his family, his job, his friends, he posts pictures of his apartment on a regular basis. It just seems weird that he's so open about his life, but reluctant to actually show himself.

Yes, I know that it's his choice, and he has a right to reveal as much of himself as he wants. But it's just so strange for a person to be so open and so private at the same time. It just makes me wonder.

LOL, I know, right? It's people like the secret-writer that are turning me off of science in a huge way, because a lot of them are like that.

But they almost have a PhD, that makes their opinion valid. Remember, the more degrees you have, the more right you are.

Re: TB

(Anonymous) 2010-02-27 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but some of OP's views could actually be proven through decades and research and all that (unless she/he's a psychoanalyst).
Some of the views members of fandom have are just plain WRONG.

TB

(Anonymous) 2010-02-26 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, you can participate in your fandoms without participating in the sociocultural meta. You don't have to leave fandom entirely, just stop arguing about racism with other fen. Problem solved.

Re: TB

(Anonymous) 2010-02-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But then how will they share their superior knowledge? It's better to be a martyr to fandom's obvious ignorance than to, you know, act like a reasonable adult.

Aww. Advanced degrees are not awarded for spelling or grammatical ability. I know plenty of doctors who make basic spelling mistakes from time to time, it doesn't make me think less of their intelligence. (Some of their clinical decisions, on the other hand...)

Have you considered that you might be a dick?

Wait, wait, I thought I was done wanking, and I'm not: We're not talking about ~science~, asshole. We're talking about local instantiations of racial prejudice in an Anglo-American context (which, tbh, is part of the problem, but, that's a separate issue with fandom in general) and what can be done to ameliorate them. I'm sorry that somebody told you that you shouldn't be doing the research you're doing, because that's a huge fucking problem in academia, but what I'm reading here is that you waded into an argument swinging your proverbial dick around and talking your damn fool head off about some shit that is fucking irrelevant.

Also, I almost have a PhD, but unlike you, my good asshole, I don't jerk off thinking about being called "Doctor". Much. Yeah, I know that fandom has limited and kind of fucked up view of racism that isn't entirely coherent or all-encompassing. Yeah, a lot of people don't understand that ethnic oppression runs way deeper than black vs. white. Yeah, I work in a context where race relations don't work like fandom thinks they do. But I keep my fucking mouth shut because that is not what the fuck the debate is about, you fucking prick.

In conclusion, fuck you.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes! They are all hot!

Except... I am kinda-sorta-not really a furry. *shrug* At least I know the actors are still hot under the costumes!
