I'm not so sure. Because, you know, women who are older than the guys they sleep with are just sad old women who really should accept their age and stop trying to seem younger than they are. Men who sleep with younger women, on the other hand, are doing a perfectly natural thing, because younger women = more babies! (I think this is very, very silly, of course.)

Haven't played the game, so I can't comment on the shipping.

What the fuck are you babbling about? An adult who sleeps with a 14 year old boy is a sicko, an adult who sleeps with a 14 year old girl is a sicko.

As for just the older/younger dynamic, there are cougars and cradle-robbers for women and men who find younger partners attractive, and they both carry connotations that can be positive or negative. You've honestly never seen rich guys be called pathetic and duped for dating someone half their age? And MILF is hardly an insult.

I don't know if it would make it more problematic, but it definitly wouldn't make it any less problematic. The trouble is, one of the characters is still 14, just switching the genders wouldn't get rid of this fact and I'm a little creeped out that the OP thinks that older woman/ young boy is not okay but older man/ young girl is somehow better? IDK.

That's not what I got from the secret. I think you misunderstood. The OP is saying that they think other people would think older man/young girl is more okay, not that the OP agrees with that. If the OP thought older woman/young boy was not okay they would not be shipping Lightning/Hope...

I suspect it has to do with Hope being the only male main party member who's not (A) canonically taken and (B) black. And writers more interested in sensation by courting taboo than trying for any actual characterization.

I agree with you. I am totally onboard with the idea that Hope might have a bit of a crush on Lightning, but at this juncture, I'm thinking those feelings are NOT reciprocated. If he were about four years older, though? Then yeah, this 'ship would work for me.

For now, I'll go with one-sided, crush/hero-worship Hope --> Lightning and be happy. XD

Uhh, plenty of people are perfectly OK with shipping older women and teenaged boys. It's a common theme in japanese storytelling (and even in american storytelling, I mean isn't that the plot of like every 80's movie about a young boy?), and I think the "if it were switched" argument is silly because of it.

And personally I can't ship it. I see their chemistry, but to me it doesn't go beyond a protective older sibling kinda bond. I think Snow/Hope goes the same way, but obviously I'm the only one who doesn't ship that either.

If you don't like rpgs then you wouldn't like it. It's a very long game and it can be tedious at times, but if you're into that thing then it's no problem. As far as story, music, and visuals go it's just amazing.

Age differences don't really bother me, and in some pairings it can be kind of hot. (Speaking as someone whose Naruto OTP is Kakashi/Sakura and Harry Potter OTP is Snape/Harry >:P)
