This argument is the worst argument ever. If a character only ever shows interest in the opposite sex, claiming that they could be bisexual just to suit your stupid ship is reaching, regardless of whether or not the character ever said "I'M STRAIGHT, GODDAMN IT, STRAIGHT".

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's not a goddamn zebra. But if you need every little thing spelled out in black and white, regardless of your context clues, you're probably an idiot.

Fanfiction doesn't have to be entirely canon-compliant. If someone thinks two characters could potentially have an interesting relationship (and that's what draws me to pairings, slash or het), why not write it? Unless a character's sexuality is an extremely large part of his or her character, it's a fairly minor tweak, characterisation-wise.

This. In fact, I don't really believe their orientation should affect their characterization at all. Who they are, intrinsically, should be the same regardless of who they bed.

If you know someone who claimed to be straight and turned out not to be, or who was bisexual and didn't mention it until ages after you knew them because they just didn't feel like it, clap your hands.

There are people who don't realise that they have a preference for the same sex until later on in life, you know. There are people who get married to a person of opposite sex and afterwards realise that they're gay. It can be "I'm not usually attracted to the same sex, it's just this one person."

Also? Characters in TV shows are almost never shown in the bathroom. If one alludes in a fic to someone visiting the men's room, is this a slander? I mean, HE'S NEVER BEEN SHOWN going to the john! Maybe he has a colostomy! Maybe he's allergic to hand soap! WRITING HIM WASHING HIS HANDS IS OOC!!!!
