You make it sound like the Star Trek fandom is out to get you. That's the wrong attitude! I've seen plenty of that pairing. I think you've just had rotten luck and I'd encourage you to look a little closer. And I think most Star Trek fans involved in reading and writing fic are pretty open to other pairings besides their ~~~***OTP omg!!!111***~~~

Don't blame the ship, blame the 'boot. Reboot fic is terrible because the characters were obnoxious in that movie, and some reboot writers haven't seen enough TOS to fill in the blanks of what great guys those characters could be.

I ship K/S insanely hard. I have never been completely shut down to K/B though, I can actually see where the theories and reasoning comes from. There are plenty of people who ship them, I'd think there would be some decent fic and art out there. There certainly is for K/S. I haven't looked for any myself, but don't give up OP! Look harder. This is such an odd secret. You say that and yet post some great art?

I will say this: much Kirk/McCoy doesn't really fulfill what some call the slash aesthetic. A lot of the writers of the pairing don't write those other big slash ships—you know, the usual con.txt kind of ships. So the way the stories go is quite different, unlike Kirk/Spock which of course is one of those slash aesthetic ships. You might just not like what Kirk/McCoy is doing, and that's okay.

Learning to separate preferences from quality is an important skill, though, before you run around maligning entire ships.

Well, it's too bad you are so close-minded...I've read an incredible amount of good K/B fic. Sure, there are plenty of clunkers, but any pairing has them. I've also read a lot of K/S fic. Yes, K/B is my main nu!Trek pairing, but the fact that much of the K/S fics seem to run on the same ideas tend to lose me after awhile.


...I find this exceptionally funny now, as I just read a comment somewhere in the last few days talking about how they thought most K/B fic (leaving art out of this for now, I know my stuff sucks XD;) was on the whole better written and thought out, if only because the K/B fandom tends to skew older than nu!K/S.

In short, you don't like it? Write your own, or buck up and deal with it. We'd love to have you, if you'll have us. :)

But goodness, really? Yeah, like any fandom, there is a ton of badfic. But there is EQUAL amounts of amazing, fantastic, thoughtful fic that will fuckin blow your mind. However, I do think it's what JLH says. K/MC is a highly atypical sort of pairing, and is gone about in an extremely different way than K/S.

However, this thread has linked mostly all of my favourite fics/writers, so I think you'll be good to go.

I was always under the impression that the sheer amount of K/B out there was staggering and so there would be a lot more to wade through.

TBH this secret sounds like a thinly veiled passive-aggressive way of saying "BOY KIRK/SPOCK REALLY IS SO MUCH BETTER, ISN'T IT? I MEAN I WAS EVEN ~ENLIGHTENED~ AND SEARCHED DESPERATELY FOR GOOD STUFF IN K/B BUT I FOUND NOTHING AT THE END OF MY SEARCH."

There is a surprising lack of mijan in this thread.

And All the King's Men (http://mijan.bravehost.com/andallthekingsmen.htm) is her giant Tarsus fic, there's no ACTUAL slashing going on, but its one of the deepest explorations of Jim and Bones' characters, and their friendship, that I've ever really seen. Story has action, drama, and delightful parts that will bring a smile to your face <3

This is but to name a few. This secret kind of only adds to the list of petty feelings I have towards K/S shippers who act like this. I know its not a good thing and I feel like I should be more like anruiukimi who is like the QUEEN of cool cucumbers, but seeing this kind of bullshit makes bile rise in my throat like no tomorrow.

I've seen lots of people asking for stories in the kirk_mccoy comm and I suspect you might have read stuff like 'Two Men and a Motorbike', which is often the first thing recced to newcomers to the pairing for virtue of being one of the earlier 'epic' multi-part Reboot fics for K/M. That's fine for what it is, but when I read it as a newbie it never really pulled me in - I suggest you read some of the other stories linked in these comments. Imho most of those are more emotionally evocative, better-written and get the 'heart' of the pairing a lot better. I'm sure you will find something you like eventually. :)

Unfortunately there isn't a terrible lot of art for the pairing, which makes me sad...

As a fellow hardcore K/S shipper, I get your pov, though it's not because I believe there's not great art and fic out there. I simply just prefer K/S over K/Mc. It may just be that you don't ship the pairing and therefore what fic or art you do see, you don't like because, inherently, it doesn't compute for you. I'd try these recs (I know I'll check them out because hey, free stuff!) given to you but if it turns out that you don't like the pairing, don't blame fandom or yourself. People ship what they ship, you can be unique.

(oh damn I love that art. That and this, which is the best of all worlds.)
