I think the real problem here isn't the show, but your friends being so horribly smug about it. What the hell.

A slightly unrelated question, what's with everybody talking about "their Christian friends"? I mean, there are so many secrets about someone having weird Christian friends who either love or hate Supernatural or don't approve of specific pairings *coughDean/Cascough*. Jesus, I went to a Catholic school, and religion was barely even mentioned outside of religious education. Is it an American thing? I really don't want to sound like one of those Europeans who are all, "lol, Americans", but I'm genuinely confused.

I'd wager it is, Anon. I suppose that because Christianity is very popular, it's the default religion for most people thus one may assume that most of their friends belong to that religion. That's not always the case, of course.

I also live in a country where Christianity (especially Catholicism) is popular, but it's not such a big thing that invades our hobbies. All of my friends are/were Christians too, by default, but in those secrets, it seems that Christianity is what defines them. Oh, IDK, maybe it's because I'm an agnostic. I just don't understand why they need to make such a fuss about these things. It's a show, it's just for fun.

Or is it? Seriously, I don't understand it either sometimes but people like to portray their own ideas onto entertainment and change it into something isn't; or coming to conclusions that were not intended by the show's creators.

I think you've got a point. The fact that most people think this secret is nuts actually makes me feel much better. Even a new friend of mine who I didn't know was Christian was 'uplifted' by the finale and kept talking about how all of Supernatural mirrors a specific bible story.

It might be an American thing, I don't know. Or a regional thing within America?

I live in Canada, and honestly? 90% of my friends are Christian, but it's something you honestly wouldn't realize, because none of us talk much about it. (Aside from the odd, "Can't get together, have to go to church"). It's not our defining trait, so it weirds me out as well when people talk about their friends like religion's the only thing going on in the lives.

Yeah, it's definitely an American thing and often a regional thing as well. As an American, I find it really embarrassing. (Not people being religious but being hypocritical, anti-intellectual, asshats.)
