Troll secret is obvious, but I did enjoy the utter lack of reaction to Castiel's death on Dean's part. People have built their relationship up wayyy too much in fanon.

I had fun with that too. D/C's fanon relationship is way different from the reality of the canon one and that would normally not be a problem if people shipping it can still separate fanon from canon. The instant and loud negative reaction from the D/C part of fandom after the finale aired, shows that this is not the case for many (not all) of the shippers though. They live in their fanon world and are bound to be disappointed.

I can understand that it's satisfying for some people if one pairing gets trashed, but from a narrative point of view, can't you understand why fans were upset? I'm not talking about Dean's reaction to Castiel's death, but rather Castiel's last scene. He just left. That wasn't "lol, haha, he doesn't care", it was shitty writing. Because if he really didn't care, he could have left earlier. There would have been no need to hang around for hours.

To you, as a shipper with your fanon expectations and hopes, perhaps it is shitty writing. To me, who don't have so much invested in the relationship it felt in character for both Cas and Dean and not weird at all. It's a pov thing.

Yeah, this. Dean's non-reaction to Castiel going kaboom was par for the course, but the final scene was very dissatisfying in terms of Castiel's characterization. He's never been written that nonchalant to Dean's suffering since he started gaining emotions.

It's one thing if you liked that scene, it's another thing that you're obviously happy that fans were disappointed. (Yeah, Schadenfreude, but still.) I don't remember any Dean/Castiel fan (or fans that ship other pairings, or no pairing at all) saying, "Harrharr, Sam and Dean separated in 5x02. Suck it up, Wincest fans!"

Also, what's wrong with fanon? Why is it such a terrible thing to explore the characters' relationships in different ways, based on small hints in canon? What do you think does fanfiction exist for? And why is it "OMG LOSERZ!" when Dean/Castiel fans do it, but perfectly acceptable when Wincest or fans of other pairings do it?

Oh please, his non-reaction was bullshit whether you ship it or not; Cas saved his and Sam's asses multiple times at the cost of losing his family and his identity. Surely he could at least look a little put-out... or even fucking shocked, he did BLOW UP after all!
