How does she not have an ideal body? She's petite and slender and has an hourglass figure.

Wearing a six when you're like five feet tall is different from wearing a six when you're five-foot-six. Proportions. She barely has wrists in that picture

I'm not calling her fat, but she is on the heavier side of average. Slender no way.

She looks about my size or even a bit bigger, which, in the U.S. is probably a juniors size 11 or 13 and womens 8-12 ... all of which are considered "plus size" even though I think it's ridiculous that they are.

But since women, especially in the spot light, are "fat" if they're bigger than a zero or two, she's a hell of a lot closer to average than your usual famous girl.

... oh dude so apparently she's five feet tall? So probably smaller than I said, yeah, but she's certainly not slender.

woah where i am a 13 is not plus size, 14+ is. the plus size stores don't sell any sizes under 14.

Yeah, you're right ... I was thinking of plus size models, I guess? Which is still sort of applicable ... Snooki definitely looks big to eyes conditioned by that kind of thinking controlling the media.

I can kindasorta squeeze into a 6 if I try really hard, and I'm just two inches taller and a lot skinnier than her. She's at least an 8, or a 10. Still not fat, but by today's standards a 6 IS fat, even for taller women. Aside from having a large chest, she's nowhere near the ideal body type.

By whose standards today? Fashion photographers? Yes. Average folks? No.

Sorry, but as someone who actually wears plus sizes, I don't understand why people feel the need to act like slim women are not slim, ~but we love them anyway~. Snooki and Christina Hendricks in particular.

I don't think anyone is saying she's fat and ugly, only debating your point that she is the IDEAL. Because she really isn't, when society's ideal is a skinny-ass 6'0" pale perfect model. But nobody is.

That doesn't make her necessarily disgusting or anything.

I never said you weren't allowed to swim. You can do whatever you want. I just think it looks gross and I have the right to think that.

Because, sadly, today you do not have the ideal body unless you are a size zero and waif. I really have no idea who Snooki is, and she looks trashy, but her body is great for her frame and it'd be sad, albeit unsurprising, if she were called fat for it.

She's about 5ft tall, has a thickset body and a bad spray tan. Of course she isn't ideal.

I'm all for seeing different body shapes on TV, but lets not lie to ourselves here, Snookie does not have the figure most people consider perfect.

She looks chunkier than the ideal in that picture, though the cut of that swimsuit surely doesn't help (that suit would look pretty awful on most women, though).

I gotta say, I blinked at "slender." I mean, she's definitely not "fat" (not that I'd have much issue with her being that anyway), but she's still got more meat on her than, "slender."

That's also definitely not an hourglass figure. (Which isn't considered "ideal," anyway, but whatever.) A genuine hourglass has a larger waist-to-hip ratio.

She's basically a rectangle. A rectangle with large breasts, but a rectangle.

I'm 5'7" and wear my country's equivalent to size 4 or 2. I'm not saying my body is better than Sookie's, but when she is called "slender" and "petite", it kind of makes me feel bad; what would you say about someone like me? That I'm not a real woman because I don't have her curves? Or that I'm slender too, and that's it? Because there's a world of difference between our bodies, and you have to either acknowledge it--and if her body is considered "ideal", then mine is somehow inferior to hers--or pretend that everybody below a certain dress size is equally skinny and perfect, which is a very strange attitude.

People, think about what you're saying please.

I didn't say that and I don't believe it. My point is that in my opinion, "the ideal" is actually much more generous than some people seem to think it is.

Also, I don't equate skinny with perfect.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I'm sorry I jumped you like that, but I'm kind of (over)sensitive when it comes to my body :(

I get why you're sensitive to that. Shit drives me nuts. I was VERY skinny until college, and I resent the idea that very thin women aren't "real" women.
