It most definitely got fucked up in Season 6. But Season 4 and 5? They were good for each other.

And I agree with you about what Willow did to Tara--mindraping her, violating her, and then the literal rape of altering her mind and then sleeping with her. But the way the relationship ended isn't all there was. I'm not even a fan of that 'ship really and I still see some good there.

Sorry to be bitchy. XD I loved their relationship in Seasons four and five. They were the first lesbian relationship I ever really saw, and I was really happy to see one so loving and generally angst free (~was totally not living vicariously through them lala can't hear you~). Then season six had to come into existence and ruin things. * gleefully ignores in head!canon*

The serial rape of Tara -- and the fact that Willow never shows any remorse for it and is never really punished for it -- is probably my single hugest problem with BtVS.

She really isn't! It isn't even clear if anyone knows what happened! And then in S7, her relationship with Tara is idealized to that point that's it's unclear whether or not I'm intended to hate Willow forever. SHE HAS SO MUCH PAIN BECAUSE SHE KILLED THE GUY WHO KILLED THE WOMAN THAT SHE CARED ABOUT BUT DID NOT CARE ABOUT ENOUGH TO STOP RAPING. BUT IT WAS OKAY, BECAUSE SHE WAS ~ADDICTED~. So the thing is - I dunno if I really consider it that OOC for Tara to've gone back to Willow; she's badass but it's made repeatedly clear that she doesn't really have friends/family outside of the Scoobies, but taken in conjunction with Buffy's forgiving Spike in S7 (because he has a sooooul now), it makes a really uncomfortable pattern for me. Maybe I am being super sensitive? The circumstances weren't really the same but it still makes me really unhappy! BtVS was like, the show of my childhood, but I hate so many of the things it chose to be.

I think Tara forgiving Willow makes sense and is in keeping with her character. It just says something really unpleasant about the writing staff that Willow is never made to pay for serial rape, and basically gets canonized as a savior in "Chosen" after she -- wait for it -- violates hundreds of women around the world with a power that has been portrayed all season as stemming from systemic rape.

I don't think you're too sensitive here at all; I love this show but I have many complicated feelings about it.

Haha, "Chosen" as a whole was just totally ridic though. The whole Slayerhood as a metaphor for empowerment didn't make a whole lot of sense to begin with, made even less sense once the First Slayer thing became a thing, and by the end it was pat in a way that didn't feel aware of its grossness and mixed messages. Not to mention - their plan was to go into the Hellmouth with a handful of barely trained girls and a spell that might not even have worked, and what saved them in the end was not themselves but the amulet from W&H? What a mess.

All that being equal though, it still has the power to reduce me tears. Especially the bit where - and I effing hate Willow by now and I was never all that fond of Xander - that bit near the end with the Scoobies, where they are all *hopeful* and sort of hold hands behind each other's backs, ugh, my heart. HAHA SORRY, YOU ARE TO BE SUBJECTED TO MY RAMBLING AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU.
