I agree 100%. He was an amazingly talented man and am genuinely upset that he is gone, but as soon as I read that I wanted to reach out and choke something. It really stings when I learn that someone I respected so much believes in total bunk to the point of forgoing REAL medical care. Jim Henson is another case of this.

Yeah, maybe it was too far progressed. All the same, I lost a little of the respect I had for him.

If you're like me and really foaming at the mouth over the prevalence of quacks out there, check out http://www.whatstheharm.net . I think if more people actually saw the number of deaths and economic harm this bullcrap causes, they'd stop being so wowed and amazed by the anecdotal evidence.

I'm really confused at exactly what he did wrong. He went to a chiropracter/acuppuncturist for a numb leg (I'm assuming thinking it had something to do with a pinched nerve or muscle). When he found out it was cancer, he made a decision not to forgo treatment. The two don't seem correlated in any way.

Uh, okay, where did he explicitly state that he was not going for chemo or something because he ~believes in total bunk~ instead? There are lots of different reasons people do not go on chemo, and faith in something else is not always part of it.

do you have ANY idea what sort of cancer he had and what the mortality rate was? Apparently not.
Bye, bitch.

Jumping in here, but... Okay, so, what kind of cancer DID he have, and what IS the mortality rate?

Are you saying it's really low, and his decision should be considered a calculated risk? Are you saying it's really high, and it makes sense if he decided there was no real point to treatment?

What?

[identity profile] woobietrope.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I believe it was pancreatic cancer. The survival rate of that, when found at too late a time is... yeah. Slim to none.

Oh. My paternal grandmother died of that. Yeah, it's really...not a pretty way to go.

I can see how that's relevant then.
