Why? You'd probably just complain about it anyway because they weren't as 'bad-ass' as you wanted to be. The author has no obligation to create characters. It's his work.

To be fair, there *are* a shitload of countries out there. He's got to focus on a few. (Though I can understand wanting just that one appearance.)

I can't help but be extremely annoyed by the fact that he basically ignores all of the non-European, non-East Asian countries [insert fans insisting that Seychelles, Egypt and Cuba + some shitty sketches of character that never appear are good enough here]

It started as a WWII comic, to be fair. When most of those countries (Latin America excluded) were either colonies or largely staying out of it.

...though yeah, it could stand to do a bit better. I'd love to see some Latin American or Middle Eastern history strips.

...and I phrased that wrong. Latin America *was* largely staying out of it, though IIRC Brazil and Mexico each sent a division. Africa/Middle East/everywhere else were colonies. Not that this impacts my point, I just don't wanna sound historically ignorant.

It was called a World War for a reason, though. The primary players in the war were the big imperial powers, definitely, but saying that the reason why most non-European countries don't really need to be part of Hetalia is because they were only colonies during the war isn't a really a good excuse pff. The colonies played a maaaaassive role in the war, the Allies would not have won at all if they didn't have their African, South/West/East Asian or Pacific colonies. I'm not saying something like 'omg zimbabwe had troops in operation agreement, we MUST have a zimbabwe!' - people definitely do go overboard with that, but the colonies weren't just sitting there, twiddling their thumbs and being oppressed pfff.

Eh imo having a country's involvement in Hetalia depend on their participation in WWII is irrelevant now days. I'm sure Himaruya looked very closely at Batista's wartime policies when designing Cuba lol. It's also like when people say 'oh, India/Portugal/Morocco/the Maldives/Uzbekistan isn't in Hetalia because Himaruya hasn't found any good jokes for the strips!' - yeah, that strip with Hong Kong was hilaaarious.

The problem is... I think he wants to write about countries that are involved in WORLD HISTORY. There are just too many who only have historical ties to other countries that haven't appeared yet etc.

What annoys me is that there are so many European countries in there but no Portugal. :( Where's Portugal?

I've got the feeling that Portugal is one of the countries who may appear at one time.

In fairness, there are a lot of countries out there, and he's not obligated to put anything into his work that he doesn't want to. The fact that he seems to mostly focus on countries with histories he's familiar with does make sense. And, well...throwing a hissy fit won't fix it anymore than the supposed petition I've heard about will.

But...I admit, I've love to see more latin american countries myself. -shrugs- It's just a matter of waiting, and seeing what happens.

If it really gets to that badly anon, you could see about writing a letter asking him to include your country - from what I've heard he's done fan requests before, so there's no harm in asking politely.

What annoys me is there's no Bosnia when it started WWI.

Just give us a heads-up when the Philippines shows up, Hetalia fans, I'd like to see. Although realistically I understand that could cause a hell of a mess.

I just enjoy which characters are already there.

Hidekaz has more than enough on his plate which still need proper introductions into the series... I think it's a bit unfair asking for even more, leaving other character perpetually on the back burner.

But I kinda get you OP.
It never annoyed me that he kept it to European, north-American or east-Asian country's at the begin because I thought he was trying to keep it simple and not too complicated. But when Lichtenstein, Wy, Seborga get introduced and bigger more influential country like India, Brazil exc. get ignored, you have to wonder what the author is on.

But who knows, Hidekaz could just be the most epic troll ever to get us butthurt about things like this.
