A girl who grew up in a bad part of town becomes an amazing professional thief. A man who's the sole heir to a huge fortune meets her, somehow discovers her secret, and is fascinated by her. His parents try to forbid him trying to see her because her alter-ego is a poor girl who lives in the slums and they think she's beneath him, his friends don't understand why he'd want to be with her and keep trying to get him affianced to some other nice rich girl, and the girl likes the guy, but she refuses to just marry him and start living off his money because she has her own pride to think about and also a criminal record that could get them both in huge trouble if they're married and the law figures out who she really is. They argue about morals all the time, the cops are after the girl, she ends up being hired to steal things from the guy's parents, she's caught doing it, and he gives up his comfortable life to run away with her when she escapes and they disappear into the city.

Turn that girl into a guy and oh no its gay but that doesn't add much more drama/exotic plot/forbidden romance, because all of that's already there.

That enough?

(Don't even try to argue that it's dramatic/exotic/forbidden because the girl and guy aren't Mr. and Mrs. Boring Surburbia. The dramatic, exotic, forbidden GAY relationships are rarely between Mr. and Mr. Boring Suburbia anyway.)

Huh, me too. It's the inverted superhero trope that does it, I think? Or at least for me. Instead of a male hero telling a damsel that she can't be with him because it's dangerous for her because of those random bad guys and he might not be around to protect her~~~, it's a female villain-protagonist telling a helpless civilian that he'll have to leave his life behind because SHE'S going THAT way, and if he wants to tag along, that's cool but she isn't waiting up because, UH ILU but the cops are coming --

I'm white, 24, dorky, known to my friends, family and co-workers as being creeped out by the idea of being intimate with another person, and from a mostly Catholic family of mild to severe racists. I'm dating a married man who's wife is aware of and approves of our relationship, is a fellow dork, is black, and is a superior rank than myself in the military.

We have to keep our relationship a secret until his contract is up, so that he (or both of us) doesn't go to non-judicial punishment for adultery (which they will still do, despite his wife hi-fiving him over the phone the night he took my virginity) Some of our co-workers will be fully disgusted with me when the news does eventually come out (which it will. You cannot keep your personal life a secret for very long in the military). Not to mention, we're deployed overseas right now, and chances to be together are slim and dangerous and require a lot of sneakyness.

My mother is meeting him when she visits this spring, after I get back. I'm not sure if she's going to hug him for acheiving the impossible and getting me in bed, or if she'll disown me as a homewrecker. My father will flip shit for giving up the V-card to a black guy. My best friend already hates him, because he didn't tell her he was in an open relationship before we hooked up and she feels betrayed by the news. My sister thinks this all would make the world's greatest sitcom.
