If you want to be technical, it'd really be selfcest/elaborate masturbation since a single VA (Asami Shimoda) provided the voice samples for both Len and Rin.

But aside from that, I don't get the fandom as a whole let alone the shipping. They're all just software anyway.

To be honest, I only ship in Vocaloid for the porn, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's most of the shipping fandom. Others may ship for a certain video but not in another, since each video is a different canon. I don't do that, but I've seen a few of those type of fics around. (Also, sorry for the angry icon, it's the only Vocaloid one I have ^^;)

That would be because there's no canon, anon. If you want to argue about songs being canon with me, we can totally go that route. I'm sure I can find some shippy Kagamine twin songs out there that do make it canon. :P

Actually... they aren't really twins, either.

They're just a design for two voices.

They can be seen as lovers, as siblings, friends, whatever, just like any Vocaloid.

My question is doesn't a lack of canon inspire lots of BAWWWW if Person A interprets a Vocaloid's character differently from Person B? I swear I'm not trying to be trolly, I've just run into too much stupidity from people in the past working WITH a canon back story.

I ship personalities instead of hotness. So if I have to create the personalities entirely myself, then I might as well ship my original characters instead of Miku and Kaito. I can understand shipping them in the context of a song, where you've been given a canon, but when you ship it in general, you're just shipping OCs. And while I'm sure lots of people ship their OCs, when I'm shipping, I prefer to go with the original characters. Does that make sense?

Yeah, it's weird. But it's is also the only Vocaloid pairing I ship, even though incest is a huge squick of mine. Since the songs are really their canons, and half portray them as lovers instead of twins, I can't really see it as a twincest couple. *shrugs*

I was under the impression that, officially, Rin and Len were the same character, but 'mirrored' to be both masculine and feminine-- not twins.

Short answer? Yes. Fandom does love incest that much. Seriously, underaged, visually pleasing opposite-sex twins with no established personalities? I'd be surprised if it weren't a juggernaut ship.

Personally I think it's cute, but then I prefer Luka/Len, which comes with its own set of problems.

I don't really get the whole fandom in general because these characters are such blank slates. All for the pretty, I guess?

I remember watching this video in an anime club meeting where a bunch of people on a street were interviewed about Vocaloids. One European lady said it's very interesting, but Miku's voice was unnaturally high. Cue, "WHAT NO, IDIOT" from a few people in the meeting.

None of the Vocaloids have any canon personalities or relationships, so shipping is pretty much based on just...how good they look and/or sound together. ;; I think that's why people do it, not because of incest. There have been a lot of a arguments over whether or not they're siblings.
