As others have said, this sentiments fits so many fandoms. =/ It's sad really. I love slash, sometimes my slash googles are on pretty tight but I've never hated a female character just because 'she gets in the way of the buttsecks'. You can have your slash and still enjoy female characters. It's ridiculous to be jealous over a fictional person.

Yeah, that's what ruined KH fandom for me too. Especially when people would draw her dying or getting killed or living alone with 15 cats at the age of 70. That just goes beyond bitterness and into some sort of weird obsession.

This issue is always a double-edged sword in fandom.

On the one hand, you get a female character with a disporinate amount of bashing, especially if she's a love interest, and even more so if she's alongside two male characters.

But on the other, this character is almost always the weakest one. For example, Kairi. What is her character? She's a sweet, determined girl. And...that's it. She's also the Princess of Heart, pureness in it's purest form, etc. It's always the girl who takes the most boring role.

So while I understand that she gets a downright venomous amount of hate in this fandom, she's not exactly great. And neither is the "1/3 of a trio who has two X's" Character Role either. So I do kind of see where the dislike comes from.

Interstingly enough, the other girls in this series are kind of interesting. Namine and Xion are set up to take this role, and then they turned out to be subversions (in fact, they're pretty much Deconstructions of Mary Sues). And Aqua is a total BAMF. Kairi's just kind of there.

I don't hate her, but I just find her boring.

Sora/Riku is ~cute~ but a big plot point of the game is that Sora is in love with Kairi. I've been waiting to see the fandom y'know... catch on to that little detail, but it's yet to happen. alas, Kairi is "annoying" and is a "Mary Sue" because she's the love interest. okay.

For the record, there are RikuSora fans out there who still love Kairi. In fact, she's one of my favourite characters.

I'll be honest, she wasn't always. The first game doesn't do her any favours. Kairi's unconscious for most of it, and all we know is that Riku and Sora are willing to go to the odds to save her. She's a damsel in distress, then when it turns out she's actually a princess of heart, it does reek a little of Purity Sue-ness.

But, like I said, I love her now. KH2 really helped show us that Kairi did have a personality, and that she could kick ass when it came down to it.

But fandom will be fandom.

I agree completely, OP! There's nothing wrong with finding a character boring/believing her to be lacking development/etc. I honestly think Kairi needed more character development myself (and Sora/Kairi is my KH1 OTP). But it's not right to actively hate her for "being a bitch," "acting like a slut," "destroying all good relationships in the game," etcetc. Not only are those terms terribly offensive, their intended meanings are completely wrong. Kairi never treats her friends unfairly, never tries to seduce anybody or cheat on Sora (who she is 1% away from dating), and while Sora/Riku (or any other pairing that isn't Kairi/Sora) isn't canon, if she had even the slightest inkling that they liked each other, I'm sure she'd give them her blessing.

Everyone has their own taste in characters, and you can dislike who you want, but character bashing? Never cool. Especially when the character has done nothing you accuse her of. :/

Thank you. If you have a real reason to dislike a character, more power to you. If you want to ship two other characters together, again, more power to you! But if you're going to have a character specifically because you see them as an obstacle to your ship, I am likely not to pay much mind to your opinion, because odds are you're really not paying attention to the characters or the development or the plot, just "the pretty".

Not gonna tell you to get out of the fandom, but I'm going to quietly stay on my side of the line and not interact with you.

One reason I stay out the fandom despite playing the games is the shit that gets heaped onto the girls. A lot of people seem to hate Kairi, Namine, and Xion simply because they get in the way of their slash pairings. Aqua gets spared a lot of it, though there are probably people who hate her as well.

I love Kairi. Granted, she is the weakest character and is more of a plot device than anything, but she's a kind, sweet girl who loves her friends. There's reasons to dislike her, but not freaking DEMONIZE her as I've seen fans do.

This is one of the reasons I can't really get into slash when there's already a female love interest. The hate I see in fanworks turns me off.
