Ok, so you don't like it. Different strokes for different folks and all. Personally I totally love it, and I discovered it as an adult. But I wouldn't rip anyone's throat out for not liking it, although it'd make me curious why.

Always found Ghibli films to be kinda overrated. I love it when some weaboos argue that they are much deeper than Disney movies - they aren't. They are actually pretty much the same: good animated movies for kids but that's it.

They always start out interesting from the beginning and then just fall on their faces at the very end. Ponyo was one of the very few whose ending didn't feel like a complete joke to me. That and the one with the girl who turned into a cat, and even then it was pretty bad compared to the first half of the movie.

I don't know if the hype just killed it for me or if I was just too old for it or what, but I found it utterly boring when I did see it. It was cute, I guess, but Ghibli's made movies that are infitely better that no one talks about as much as this one (Porco Rosso is the love of my life). I definitely don't hate it, but it's not one of those movies I'm interested in seeing again.

I didn't like it either. I saw this, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away and didn't enjoy any of them - and not out of smug "heh, animus" internet distaste, I just didn't. I was disappointed each time, since everyone said they were so great ):

A lot of people don't like Ghibli movies, actually. I hear just as many people saying they like them as people who say they think they're overrated. To each their own, OP.

Well, one of the reasons I love it so much is because of nostalgia. It was one of the first anime I ever saw (probably the first one that I knew was actually Japanese, unlike all the stuff that aired on Nickelodeon in the nineties). I don't think it's a terrible movie or anything, but that's probably the main reason I liked it so much.

The soundtrack is also really cool.

A friend of mine suffers from what we ended up nicknaming Totorophobia. He is terrified of that creature and goes into panicked fits whenever he sees it. He even had to turn away from the screen when it made a cameo in Toy Story 3 because something about it creeps him out beyond belief.

I hated the younger sister's Japanese voice. It was so grating and annoying that I wanted Totoro to eat her.

But uh...yeah, I generally don't care for Hayao Miyazaki movies. The only one I really liked was Kiki's Delivery Service. I'm more of a Satoshi Kon person. 8D;

I actually hated it, too. :( I mean, I didn't want to, but I found the kids extremely irritating. It might have been the voices - in both Japanese and English, their screeching really got on my nerves. And I quickly found out that I just didn't care about anything that was going on in it. The only things I liked were the Totoros and the Catbus.

I can't seem to like anything by Miyazaki and my throat nearly gets ripped out if I say so. It's actually kind of refreshing to see I'm not alone. XD

I don't really get how someone can not love this movie but I fell in love with it as a kid. I supposed it's different when you watch it for the first time as an adult.

It also depends on what you expect from it. It's not a masterpiece: more like a zen experience. It's slow paced, quiet, fun, strange and you always have a smile on your face afterward. I don't know a lot of movies that make me feel like that: Disney & Don Bluth movies are enjoyable but they are always more action oriented, as are most anime movies.
